Part of our More Than Dog Friendly Collection, Beech Cottage is a great place to take your furry friends on holiday with you, as there are plenty of walks right from the doorstep and pet friendly pubs and tea rooms within the village. Scalby is a picturesque and peaceful village towards the outskirts of Scarborough, but has everything you could need during your stay, including great places to eat, a general store and there’s even a tennis club and a golf course around the corner. Scalby Mills is just down road and you can enjoy a lovely walk along the sea front from the Sea Life Centre, right onto the Scarborough’s North Bay with Peasholm Park, The Open Air Theatre with regular concerts by international stars throughout the summer and there is also a waterpark.
There is a wonderful seaside walk around to Scarborough’s South Bay, which is more bright lights, penny arcades and ice cream shops, as well as a long beach, donkey rides and all you would expect from a traditional seaside resort. Head inland from the coast and you’ll find plenty to see and do in and around the North York Moors National Park and the Forge Valley Woods National Nature Reserve. Dalby Forest, 8 miles away, is a popular destination for walkers, cyclists, outdoor adventures and also concerts. There are plenty of villages and towns such as Pickering, Malton, Helmsley and just 18 miles further up the coast is the traditional seaside town of Whitby. Just over 40 miles away the walled city of York is a great place to spend a day and enjoy all the attractions it has to offer. Beach 2 miles. Shop 200 yards, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

Built in the 1800’s, this traditional Yorkshire stone cottage is full of character. The hamlet of Wrench Green is situated on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park, and is set amongst the most beautiful countryside close to the village of Hackness. The location is one of the most picturesque areas in Yorkshire, with fantastic walks and bike rides right on your doorstep. Head off on a woodland walk or follow some of the routes of the Tour de Yorkshire on your bike. The Dalby Forest is close by, home to the World Mountain Bike Championships. Have a go yourself on the world cup trails, or there are tracks to suit all abilities. With over 8,000 acres of woodland with wonderful walks and nature trails, this is an outdoor enthusiasts paradise. The cottage makes a great base from which to visit the North York Moors National Park, the east coast, Yorkshire Wolds and the many wonderful market towns that Yorkshire is famous for. The coast is just 6 miles away with Scarborough, Filey, Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby all being a short drive from the cottage. Beach 6½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 4 miles.

Oakridge is a stunning example of 1800s architecture with a luxurious, contemporary interior. This semi-detached property offers a large sociable kitchen/dining room for family meals and playing games in front of the Aga before retiring to the living room. There is a large conservatory that looks out onto the lovely garden, and the utility room has a separate shower room which is great for rinsing off after a dip in the hot tub. The kitchen patio doors open out onto the hot tub and stone-built barbecue area, and there is a separate quieter area at the far end of the garden if you just want to relax and unwind. Hinderwell is a village with excellent local amenities including a good butchers, convenience store, a local pub and a tea room all just a short walk from your doorstep. This quaint village is just a mile from the picturesque fishing village of Runswick Bay, which boasts a sandy cove with opportunities for fossil hunting and rock pooling, yet right in the North York Moors National Park. Head north or south on the Cleveland Way and visit some of the amazing coastal gems such as Staithes, Robin Hood’s Bay, Sandsend or Saltburn.
The bustling town of Whitby is a short drive or bus ride away where you will find so much to see and do. There is a 3 mile stretch of golden sandy beach, traditional amusement arcades and regular boat trips out to sea in search of minke whales and dolphins. There are many bistros and restaurants ranging from award-winning fish and chips to fine dining as well as tea rooms, coffee shops and pubs with live music. If you’re feeling energetic why not attempt the 199 steps up to the abbey that towers over Whitby.
You can drive inland to enjoy the natural beauty and some amazing heritage sites such as abbeys and monasteries within the National Park or catch a steam train as it snakes through the lush countryside to destinations such as Goathland and Pickering. In the opposite direction you will pass the picturesque village of Middleham and its famous castle, enjoy the sights as the race horses’ ride to and from the gallops each day, or sit it in the village square and enjoy a coffee as you watch the world go by.
