This is a self-contained, well appointed, one bedroom cottage, located on a working farm with uninterrupted views down the valley. The garden is enclosed with a seating area and small lawn and it overlooks the pond where you can sit and watch the wildlife. If you wish to bring your horse along then the owner can provide grazing (by direct arrangement with the owner at cost).
    Harwood Dale is one of Yorkshire’s best kept secrets, an unspoilt area of Yorkshire with the most stunning scenery and wildlife. It is not far from the Dalby Forest with fantastic mountain bike trails, even the World Cup Cycle Trail has been held here, so there’s plenty of tracks to suit all abilities. The coast is just a short drive with Scarborough, England’s oldest seaside resort being the closest large resort, just 6 miles away with many shops and restaurants, and a visit to the Sea Life Sanctuary and Peasholm Park are not to be missed. Whitby 15 miles north, is rich in history and famous for its connections with Captain Cook. Here you can explore Whitby Abbey and the picturesque harbour, and wander around the cobbled streets full of interesting independent shops and cafés. This brick-built, single-storey cottage is a hidden gem offering a very private stay whilst enjoying an enviable position near to the award-winning, dog-friendly pub and is 5 minutes by car from the nearby market town of Thirsk. It has been completely renovated internally in December 2019 and externally over the summer of 2020.
    The cottage offers beautifully presented accommodation for two guests and their pets. There is a small double bedroom with under-bed storage. There is extensive garden space outside the cottage with stunning views, which is also fully fenced to allow your pets to wander in a contained area. Access to a larger field is also provided. Car parking for two cars is available next to the cottage, which is at the end of a private tarmac and gravelled driveway. There is also separate secure storage available for bicycles.
    The owners are keen walkers, runners and cyclists and can advise of lovely local and regional routes and provide local dog-friendly walk guides for your use. From the doorstep, there are numerous footpaths and cycling trails and the renowned, traditional, dog-friendly village inn serves local produce just minutes from the cottage. The village is home to a 4x4 driving centre which offers action-packed days with off-road driver training and quad biking, and at Sutton Bank, visitors can take a trial lesson at the Yorkshire Gliding Club and visit the nearby famous White Horse near Kilburn. Thirsk, 3 miles away, is a quaint market town famous for its connections with James Herriot, the well-known vet and author of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. Thirsk is also home to a well-known racecourse and 15th century church.
    Days out can be enjoyed at Rievaulx Abbey near the wonderful town of Helmsley, as well as Castle Howard and Fountains Abbey. Board the steam train at Pickering to be transported through the stunning North York Moors to the coastal port of Whitby and explore the fishing villages at Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes. The North Yorkshire Moors and also the Yorkshire Dales are easily accessible by car and the historic walled city of York is only 25 miles away, with its iconic minster, exquisite architecture, museums and art galleries, and is not to be missed when visiting Yorkshire. With its streams and mill race running through Bellerby it’s a picturesque setting at the edge of Wensleydale. Entering the front door into the living/dining room with exposed stonework, flagstone flooring, beams and a large inglenook fireplace, the cottage offers an abundance of character and charm. The two settees set around the open fire offer a cosy feel while watching the Smart TV in Holly Cottage.
    A dining table and chairs are positioned to the rear of the room. Going through to the kitchen, all the appliances, crockery, and utensils you need are available to rustle up some cosy meals while staying at Holly Cottage. The characterful staircase from the living room has uneven, deep treads with a rope banister to guide you up towards the two bedrooms. Both rooms offer comfortable beds, one being a double, the other offering bunk beds suitable for children with attractive quality linen and hand and bath towels available for each Guest. The compact shower room has a shower cubicle with a deep step in/out, toilet, sink and heated towel rail.
    To the rear of the property there is an enclosed picket fenced garden which includes a lawn area and flower beds, along with a stone patio h a table, chairs, and a bench to enjoy sitting at while taking in a morning coffee or firing up the barbecue for an alfresco supper. The South facing front garden is not secured for dogs but guests can happily sit there on the bench and watch the world go by. The shared front driveway which offers parking for 1 car.     Bellerby is a village situated on the edge of The Yorkshire Dales National Park with a local pub serving a selection of real ales but unfortunately no food and although there is no shop or amenities as such in the village the lovely market town of Leyburn is just over a mile away where an array of individual shops, pubs, cafés, and restaurants are available. If you are looking to get out and stretch your legs, whether walking or cycling, there are abundant established public footpaths, bridleways, and cycle routes available in the local vicinity with spectacular scenery, open countryside, and pretty Yorkshire villages to explore.
    Within easy driving distance there is an array of places to visit whether it’s the historic Castle Bolton, Richmond Castle, Jervaulx Abbey or the stunning Aysgarth Falls, there is something to suit everyone’s taste. The children and adults alike will love Forbidden Corner with its quirky folly garden to explore or for the more adventurous why not visit the theme park, Lightwater Valley.
