Owned by His Majesty the King, in Right of His Duchy of Lancaster, Scalby Lodge is a collection of fifteen beautiful cottages situated in an idyllic clifftop setting near the elegant seaside town of Scarborough.

All the cottages are finished with fixtures and fittings of the very highest standard and have open-plan dining. Some have en-suite bedrooms. They offer an ideal location from which to explore both the North York Moors National Park and the glorious Heritage Coast of Yorkshire.

Top Lodge has recently undergone a full refurbishment, Top Lodge has been exquisitely reimagined with optimal spaces and a retro-meets-modern, Pugin-inspired interior design. The result is a charming getaway home for up to six people to enjoy time exploring the beautiful surroundings of the Broughton Sanctuary and the glorious Yorkshire countryside and attractions beyond. The ground floor is accessed via the kitchen door and is comprised of a downstairs bedroom (double or twin), kitchen, dining room, sitting room, shower room and toilet. Outside the property are its original outbuildings and a pleasant garden area overlooking peaceful woodlands. As part of your stay, you’ll have free, exclusive access to England’s largest rewilding estate. So you can spend time together in nature, wandering ancient woodlands, cycling moorland trails, or enjoying picnics by the riverside. It’s a country getaway like no other.
For a relaxing day out venture further into the Yorkshire Dales to the picturesque villages of Grassington, 12 miles, and Kettlewell, 5 miles further, calling at Kilnsey Trout Farm on the way and a stop off to watch the climbers hang off Kilnsey Crag. Many walks and cycle routes for all abilities can be found here and all around the area. Country pubs serving local produce are within easy reach should you wish to dine out during your stay, with the closest just 500 yards away and easily reached via a stroll through the estate grounds. Top Lodge provides a tranquil retreat away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life but will come alive when filled with your family and friends, yet is within very easy reach of the main town of Skipton and surrounding attractions, what more could you want. Rudda Farm House is a pretty four bedroomed semi-detached property in Staintondale. This delightful cottage oozes charm and character with a kitchen/dining room with a traditional Rayburn oven. Tastefully furnished, the comfortable living area has a wonderful multi-fuel burner and stunning views out into the surrounding countryside and North York Moors National Park. Also benefiting from an enclosed garden at the front and small patio at the rear creating a lovely area to sit and relax in the sun and to take in the glorious panoramic views.
The farm cottages are nested half way between Whitby and Scarborough on the North Yorkshire Coast. There are wonderful walks and cycling straight from the door and out into the National Park and there is bike storage available on site. Enjoy the many delights of the area including hidden coves and beaches, exhilarating cliff top walks and coastal villages such as Robin Hood’s Bay, and Ravenscar where you can walk down to the foot of the cliffs to view the seal colony. Wonderful Whitby is further north with its busy cobbled streets and independent shops offering everything from Gothic clothing to jet stone jewellery. There is an abundance of traditional pubs with live music that accept pets, coffee shops and tea rooms, and an increasingly popular food scene with gastro pubs and bistros complementing award winning fish and chip shops. There are plenty of dog friendly beach areas to explore where you can enjoy rock pooling and fossil hunting. Keep an eye on the events calendar as there is always something happening in Whitby from the famous Goth weekends, a regatta, music festivals and a folk week being highlights of a year round calendar. Just south of Staintondale you will find the traditional seaside resort of Scarborough with its busy amusement arcades, a waterpark and sandy beaches. The open air theatre hosts live international acts throughout the summer, and no trip to Scarborough is complete without a stroll around Peasholm Park and the world-famous Peasholm Park Naval Warfare which takes place throughout the summer.
With the North York Moors National Park right on your doorstep there are many walks and cycle routes to explore, or just enjoy a drive through some of the most stunning scenery. There is so much to see nearby but you may fancy a trip further afield to the walled city of York, an hour away, with its ancient minster and historic buildings. You are only a 10-minute stroll downhill to the harbour and the heart of the town, making this an ideal choice for guests who wish to explore the many delights of this coastal destination. At the front of the house you have a designated parking bay as well as the secure artificial lawned front garden where you can sit outside in the sunshine.
Stepping inside you are welcomed into the hallway with a spacious open plan lounge and dining room at the front of the house. The kitchen is modern and well equipped, so that you can create all your favourite meals. Upstairs on the first floor you have a kingsize bedroom as well as a twin room with zip and link beds, along with the main bathroom.
On the third floor the attic has been converted to a third bedroom with zip and link beds to allow flexibilty and a bathroom with toilet and basin. This property has been completely renovated throughout in 2023 and is finished to a high specification ensuring you have a stay to remember.
Whitby is a proud seafaring town; you can find out more at the museums or even first hand up at the abbey ruins. Walk through the whale bone archway on the West Cliff or visit the shipwreck on Saltwick Bay and look up into the cliffs to spot the smugglers’ tunnels. For those who wish to experience the wonders of this inspiring area, why not take a long, lazy walk amid the scenic beauty of the North York Moors National Park, which can be accessed by the heritage steam train winding its way through the rolling hills of heather? You can also explore quaint coastal villages such as Robin Hood’s Bay, Staithes or Runswick Bay. Take in the sights along the seafront at Filey, Scarborough or Saltburn. And if you’re a history buff, take a trip into York to soak up the culture brought by both the Romans and the Vikings. Closer to home, the town of Whitby has the long golden stretch of sandy beach, the 199 steps up to the St Mary’s Church perched on the cliff top, the boat trips and the freshly caught fish and seafood.
