The cottages have an open, shared lawn to the front of the properties, and a well-equipped games room and children’s play area. Filey is a traditional Edwardian seaside town. A perfect place for an active holiday or just to relax. The five mile stretch of sandy beach is protected by the rocky grandeur of Filey Brigg. Surfing, fishing, yachting, golf, walking and bird watching are just a few of the available activities. The Evron Centre provides plentiful entertainment with music, song, dance and theatre on offer. Filey has many restaurants and hostelries providing superb cuisine. Should you wish to travel further afield you will find that Yorkshire glories in one of the finest stretches of coastline in Britain, golden beaches, rocky coves and towering cliffs. Further to the north is Whitby, a picturesque fishing port and inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Moors Railway, 18 miles of preserved railway are both close by, as is Flamingo Land. Shops 3 miles, pub 1 mile.

This old cottage, dating from 1840 and part of a former ropery, retains some of its original features, mixed with many contemporary touches to ensure a very comfortable stay in the heart of Whitby. The lovely garden is ideal for sunny days to relax and enjoy a drink in peace and quiet. Venture out into the wonderful streets of this Gothic town made famous by Bram Stokers novel ’Dracula’. Take a walk in the old part of town, dating back to the 1700s, and explore the cobbled streets with its bazaars, cafés and pubs, or walk up the famous 199 steps to the church of St Marys for an amazing view over the town. Take a boat trip out to sea for a unique view of the Yorkshire Heritage Coast, or hop on top of the open top bus which makes regular tours of the town. Venture further afield to seek out some of the beautiful villages, coves and bays that are dotted along the coast. Take a step back in time to the days of pirates and smuggling hidden gems at places such as Robin Hoods Bay and Staithes.
Head inland to admire the natural beauty of the North York Moors National Park, with mile upon mile of nature trails and walks such as the Cinder Track and the Cleveland Way. Visit stunning waterfalls such as Falling Foss, or even take a ride on the steam train which ventures into ’Heartbeat’ country and the quaint village of Goathland. There are a variety of theme parks in the area from war time museum at Eden Camp to roller coasters at Flamingo Land. Beach 300 yards. Shop, pubs and restaurants 100 yards.

Felicity House is in an enviable position overlooking the village of Staithes with the Cleveland Way trail running past the doorstep. The cottage has lots of original features and has been renovated by the present owners to a very good standard. Some of the rooms have lovely sea views and the living room has a cosy wood burner to curl up in front of after a long walk along the rugged coastline.

Staithes is within the North York Moors National Park so stunning scenery and traditional Yorkshire villages are in abundance. The village has a good local pub serving food, as well as a shop for essentials. Staithes is a great place for fossil hunting and in the summer you see many children enjoying searching the rock pools and crevices for these fossils. The village is like stepping back in time with its cobbled streets and quaint, quirky cottages that lead down to the harbour where you can sit and enjoy a drink with the locals at the pub. Staithes has now become a great artists retreat with an excellent art festival held every year.

The property is perfect for those walkers amongst you as you can walk along the clifftops following the trail to Whitby and further on the Robin Hood’s Bay and Ravenscar. The town of Whitby is just 8 miles away and is one of the most visited fishing towns on the coast, famous for the abbey being the inspiration to Bram Stoker’s book ’Dracula’. This lovely lower ground floor apartment is tastefully decorated and well-equipped, and situated close to all of Whitby’s amenities. There are six steps down into the welcoming hallway, a spacious kitchen/dining room with unique brick arch work makes a lovely social space to eat, chat and plan your holiday activities. The train and bus stations are also close by, making this a perfect base from which to explore Whitby and its surrounding areas. A short stroll takes you to the quaint cobbled streets of Whitby’s old town and atmospheric harbour. From here, if you’re feeling energetic you could climb the 199 steps which lead up to the ruins of Whitby Abbey, which stands dominantly on the clifftop and can be seen from Hilltop Hideaway’s kitchen window.
You can enjoy the magnificent coastline with an exhilarating cliff-top walk, a stroll along the beach to Sandsend or in the summer months pack a picnic and relax on the long sandy beach. Jump on the tour bus to make sure you don’t miss out on everything Whitby has to offer, or take a trip on one of the pleasure boats and enjoy a trip around the harbour and out to sea. There is always something happening in Whitby, from the bi-annual Goth Festival to the Whitby Regatta, music festival and the festival of Christmas. Beach ½ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

Located only 200 yards from the beach, you are just a stroll along the seafront from all the bars, restaurants and amenities that this bustling town has to offer. Inside this delightful house you have the living room at the front with a separate open plan kitchen/dining area. The kitchen is modern and perfect for guests who love to create fresh home cooked meals to enjoy together. There are glass doors leading out from the dining area into your enclosed garden, which has a table and chairs ready for sunny evenings of al fresco dining. Plus there is storage for bikes, surf boards and other outdoor equipment. The garden looks out onto a green open space which leads you down towards the beach. Upstairs are three bedrooms, the master double bedroom, a twin bedroom with a zip and link kingsize bed which can be made up as 2ft 6in twin beds on request, and a single bedroom.

Whitby is famous for its links to Dracula, and the Gothic abbey and graveyard tower 199 steps above the town. The climb is worth the effort just to take in the fantastic views of the town and out to sea. Many events and festivals take place all year round such as the Goth Weekender, Folk Week, Whitby Regatta, Steampunk festivals and many music events. There are plenty of traditional pubs to complement the wine bars, as well as many different bistros and restaurants to choose from, not forgetting award-winning fish and chips. There is a 3 mile stretch of golden sand complete with ice cream parlours and arcades to enjoy, and a long pier to walk down.

If you want to get off the beaten track there are many coves and bays dotted along the North Yorkshire and Cleveland Heritage Coast to explore. Hidden gems such as Runswick Bay and Boggle Hole along with the more famous such as Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes are worth a visit. There are many local walks in the area including the Cleveland Way route, and the Cinder Track across the viaduct which heads down to Robin Hood’s Bay.

Head inland into the North York Moors National Park for stunning scenery and fabulous views. Local bus, car, bike or even a journey on a traditional steam train are other ways to get out and see what the area has to offer. The Victorian seaside town of Scarborough is just down the coast with its two huge bays; North Bay for a quiet stroll watching the waves, or South Bay for amusement arcades, a fairground and a harbour. The Open Air Theatre plays host to many international artists throughout the summer months, and Peasholm Park hosts its Model Naval War on a regular basis. There are a number of golf courses, cycling tracks and country or beach walks in the local area. If history is your thing, there are many abbeys and historic places of interest throughout North Yorkshire including the Eden War Museum in Malton. The walled city of York is just an hour’s drive away.

Furnished to a high standard it boasts a range of amenities to make your stay extra special. It has a fully equipped open plan kitchen diner with a stone floor complemented by a log burner, perfect for cosy nights in perhaps playing board games around the spacious rustic dining table. There is a utility area with toilet, sink, and washing machine plus space to leave boots and coats adjoins the kitchen diner. The separate carpeted lounge has second log burner, two comfortable settees, TV, range of books, jigsaws, and board games. Upstairs the master bedroom has a sumptuous king-sized bed with storage drawers, hanging space and mirror. The second bedroom contains chunky bunk beds suitable for adults as well as children and the cosy third has a single bed plus bedside table. The fully tiled family bathroom has a twin head shower over the bath as well as toilet and basin. There is an enclosed yard to the rear of the property with table and chairs for alfresco dining and a tap perfect for hosing down mucky boots and paws after a day well spent exploring the beautiful surroundings.
The village of Skinningrove is undiscovered by most tourists and is peaceful all year round. It is a quaint little bay, with neighbouring Cattersty Sands just a short walk away. This is a perfect choice for those looking for a tranquil beach holiday away from the crowds. Your dog is welcome to join you and will be in heaven with the fabulous walks you can enjoy together. This beach is dog friendly all year round – most of the beaches along the coastline here welcome dogs – or have sections of dog friendly areas.
For those who love the coast, there are some wonderful beaches nearby to discover, either on foot along the Cleveland Way or by car.

At Lady Edith’s Holiday Park, you have a welcoming family friendly bar next to a play area, making this fun for everyone. You can also purchase a fishing permit for the local mere, or explore the nearby woodland. In Scarborough there are two bays. North Bay Beach sweeps in a crescent lined with colourful beach huts with the Sea Life Centre at the far end. You can walk from the North Bay all the way along the promenade to the busier South Bay. At the south bay you have all the fun of a traditional seaside holiday with arcades as well as many cafés, restaurants, bars and shops to visit. Both bays have lovely, large sandy beaches. There is also Scarborough Castle which stands on the cliff top between the two bays, as well as the casino and the funfair on the seafront.
Peasholm Park is wonderful to discover, you can hire pedalos and rowing boats to go around the lake and see the stunning oriental gardens. Scarborough is famous for its theatres. There is an outdoor theatre which stages concerts by some of music’s big names, and then there is the Stephen Joseph Theatre which is famous for the premieres of Alan Ayckbourn’s plays. The Alpamare waterpark is great for all ages, with its fantastic wave pool and waterslides, as well as a large heated outdoor infinity pool. Keep younger children entertained with the ’splash and play’ area. For adults there is a spa where you can relax and be pampered. The heated outdoor pools are warm enough to enjoy through all of the seasons. Further along the coast you also have Ravenscar, Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay and Bridlington to discover. Ideally positioned with all the town’s many attractions within easy walking distance, including the beach, harbour and the iconic abbey perched on the cliff tops above you. At the front of the cottage you have a seating area for two outside, in a peaceful yard away from the bustling crowds. Stepping inside you are welcomed into the open plan living area, with an electric fire as well as comfortable seating beneath the beamed ceiling. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking a holiday feast. Upstairs you have two beautifully presented bedrooms, on the first floor is a double bedroom with views over the pantiled rooftops to the whale-bone archway up on the cliff tops. There is also the family bathroom. On the second floor is the family bedroom under the beamed ceiling with a double as well as a single bed and elevated views across the rooftops and out to sea. Outside as an additional quirky feature you have the original outhouse with a toilet, as well as a separate utility room.
You are only a 5-eminute walk away from the nearest beach, with a wide assortment of quirky independent shops, as well as cafés, restaurants and pubs all within easy reach and many being dog friendly. In the harbour there is the HMS Endeavour, a replica of Captain Cook’s ship which was built and sailed from Whitby on his voyages of discovery. Join a ghost walk, visit the museums, you can even see a shipwreck at low tide at Saltwick Bay or look up into the cliffs to spot the smugglers tunnels, the clues to the towns colourful past are all around you.

Dale View is a Victorian house, built in 1896 and its characterful period features include beamed ceilings and original fireplaces in both reception rooms. The house has a real welcoming home from home feel throughout and has been carefully furnished with your comfort in mind. The open fire in the living room and the gas stove in the dining room provide the perfect place to enjoy atmospheric, comfortable, and cosy evenings, after a busy day exploring the beautiful surroundings. The well-equipped dining kitchen has an authentic country feel, with bespoke kitchen units and hand painted tiles. There is everything you need to create favourite home cooked meals. The rear door leads out from the kitchen into a small, south facing, enclosed patio with table and chairs for alfresco dining.

Upstairs are two bedrooms; one bedroom with King-size bed beneath the beamed vaulted ceiling, and a spacious family bedroom with beamed ceiling, double bed, and a single bed. From both bedrooms Ravenscar cliffs can be seen and glimpses of the sea beyond. There is a bathroom with roll top bath, along with a shower room, perfect for a family or couple holidaying together.

The village of Fylingthorpe is in the heart of the North York Moors National Park and approximately half a mile from Robin Hood’s Bay. There is a local village pub, five minutes’ walk from Dale View serving meals, local beers, and real ales, with large beer garden and play area for children. Opposite the pub is a small village shop for essentials. Days out can include many walking and cycle trails; a particular favourite is along the coastal cinder track to Boggle Hole or Ravenscar. Robin Hood’s Bay is a must and is within walking distance of Dale View, taking less than twenty minutes to walk into the heart of this fascinating village. Famous for its winding, cobbled streets, tiny fisherman’s cottages, old stories of smuggling and secret underground tunnels, and along the Yorkshire Jurassic coast, spectacular scars, rockpools and fossils. Further along the coast is Whitby, known for its magnificent gothic abbey and Dracula. Further north is Sandsend, Staithes, and Runswick Bay. To the south you will find Scarborough, Flamborough Head, and the Dalby Forest. This is a wonderful destination which draws visitors from around the UK to enjoy the incredible scenery and to discover the fascinating history which makes this area so unique.
