The Horseshoe Annex is a Tardis of a property with lots of room in a very cosy space. As you walk into the property you are greeted by the kitchen/dining room which is well-equipped with everything you are going to need for this year’s staycation. There is a lovely living room and family bathroom. There is a kingsize bedroom and a twin room. The grounds are shared with the owners, but you do have your own piece of garden to the side of the annex. Situated in Steyning at the north end of the River Adur gap in the South Downs, 4 miles north of the coastal town of Shoreham-by-Sea. Located on the edge of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty this is a fantastic place to stay for the dog walker, rambler and for those of you that like a day out with the kids, there is a plethora of places to go.
Whether you are looking for relaxation, adventure, history or culture there are plenty of events, attractions and activities to keep you busy. If you are looking for a break from city life, you could take a ramble across the South Downs, or hire a bike, stopping for a rest in one of the tea rooms or inns. It’s the perfect place to relax and unwind. The hiking highlight has to be Chanctonbury Ring which is a late Bronze or early Iron Age hill fort that boasts sublime views over the South Downs countryside. The ring, which is well-known for its prominent beech trees, is hailed as a place where the supernatural happens. Steyning itself is a pretty historical town with a wealth of 16th century buildings, local independent shops, places to eat and drink and the host to many different festivals. If you are a more of a biker then there are plenty of trails locally, to keep you busy. This is a very special holiday home that is going to give you lots of pleasure and a fantastic place for you to stay this year in a quiet and peaceful location.

Otters Holt is a mid-terrace property situated in the village of Pevensey Bay, East Sussex. The ground-floor is home to a kitchen with breakfast area, a lean-to conservatory that the owner calls ’The Den’ and an open plan dining and living room with an open fire. To the outside there is an enclosed rear patio courtyard with furniture. Otters Holt is a lovely property, perfect for a family or group of friends to enjoy England’s south east coast. There are many quaint, seaside and market towns, historic sites and miles of glorious coastline to explore. Sussex has it all for a great holiday destination. Pevensey Bay has a shingle beach which is all-year round dog friendly with amenities on the shore front, and in the village centre there are shops, pubs and cafés. Nearby are the towns of Hastings, Eastbourne and even Brighton is within easy driving distance, so use this lovely area as a base to explore England’s south coast. Beach 75 yards. Nestling in the heart of the Tillingham Valley and located on a 200-acre family-run, traditional working sheep and fruit farm, these holiday properties (refs 19652 and 19745 ) are ideally based for exploring the Kent and Sussex countryside. A walkers paradise, with an apple orchard and sheep filled fields to wander over and connect with several public footpaths. See the lambs under the trees of apple blossom in spring, or visit the ancient Cinque Port town of Rye, with its cobbled streets, tea rooms, art galleries and far reaching views over the Romney Marsh. Rye activities include the Scallop Festival in February, the Maritime Festival and Raft Race in August, an arts festival in September and Rye Fawkes Bonfire in November. Camber, Bodiam and Scotney castles are all nearby, along with Battle Abbey and the beautiful gardens of Sissinghurst, Pashley, Great Dixter and Bedgebury Pinetum. Fishing, golf, swimming, sailing, horse riding, cycle hire and rowing boat hire are all available locally, or take the time to explore the wonderful nature reserve at Rye Harbour. Beaches at Winchelsea, 3 miles, and the fabulous golden sands at Camber, 6 miles. Enjoy a tour around and sample the produce of the local vineyards or ride on the vintage steam railway to Bodiam. Rye railway station provides access to London in 1 hour 45 minutes. Shops and pub 2 miles.

These two pretty, beamed, semi-detached holiday cottages, (refs 27442 and 27443) with mezzanine floor, have been attractively converted from former cow byres and are set in the owners’ 14-acre small holding which is home to farm animals including sheep and pigs. On-site is a small children’s play area. A 10-minute walk across the fields brings you into Sedlescombe with its village green and traditional country pub. In close proximity to Battle, with its famous battlefield and abbey, built to commemorate the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Relive one of the most famous days in history, and join the 1066 walk from the doorstep. Take a trip on the Kent and East Sussex Steam Railway from Tenterden, also known as ’The Jewel of the Weald’, through the Rother Levels to Bodiam, one of the most evocative moated castles (National Trust), built in 1385. Discover the one time coastal smuggling town of Hastings and medieval Cinque Port town of Rye with its cobbled streets. Picturesque sand dunes and interesting wildlife can be explored at Camber. Ox Lodge Barn is a single storey holiday property situated in the High Weald of East Sussex, ideally suited to someone with walking difficulties. The property is well thought out, with the bedrooms at either end of the property, with the living areas in between, giving complete privacy to guests. The spacious yard may be shut off to contain dogs or children. Excellent walks, a vista of stunning views and carp fishing by arrangement with the Estate are available. Bird watching can also be arranged with a local expert. Local attractions include ‘Batemans’, Rudyard Kipling’s home and Sarah Raven’s cutting garden. The historic town of Rye is 30 minutes, Battle, 10 minutes, Tunbridge Wells, 30 minutes and Brighton, 45 minutes. Robertsbridge station is 5 minutes away with a journey time to London Charing Cross of 1 hour 10 minutes. Shop and pub 2½ miles.

Built to a good standard, these adjoining holiday cottages in the owners’ grounds are situated in the tiny village of Beddingham, which lies in the South Downs just off the Lewes to Eastbourne road (which although convenient, can be busy). The view to one side of the cottage is that of Mount Caburn, which is one of the highest landmarks in East Sussex and is the home of an Iron Age fort! Both cottages have wheelchair access to the ground floor rooms. Lewes, 2½ miles, is dominated by the ruins of a great Norman castle and boasts twisting medieval streets and tiny twittens. The port of Newhaven lies on the land with the shortest sea route between London and Paris and Seaford is a quiet, informal holiday resort from where Seaford Head, The Seven Sisters Country Park, Beachy Head and the village of Alfriston can all be visited. Glyndebourne and the outdoor opera, 2 miles. Drusillas Zoo Park, Charleston - the home of the artists Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant and rural bolt hole for the Bloomsbury group, Firle Place and Newhaven Fort are all a short drive. Situated in Ore village, a residential area on the outskirts of Hastings, this holiday property is just a 10 minute drive to the beach, with local shops, pubs and restaurants within walking distance. Venture into the old town of Hastings where the drama ’Foyles War’ was filmed, and see the Stade and the famous black weather boarded net huts. This attractive detached house set in the owner’s grounds provide spacious holiday accommodation situated at the end of a mile-long lane in glorious rural surroundings. There is a public footpath leading off the owner’s drive providing miles of walks across open countryside.
A trip to picturesque Rye enables visitors to sample local foods at the Wednesday morning farmers market which is held at Strand Quay. By taking a stroll along the cobbled streets, there is also the chance to buy a memento from one of the many independently-owned shops and boutiques, art galleries and potteries - or even start Christmas shopping from the wide selection of goods available! Also worth a visit are Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, Camber Sands and Camber Castle – this area of saltmarsh protects some very special wildlife, and footpaths lead to four birdwatching hides. The picturesque market town of Battle makes for an enjoyable day out, as well as Hastings, the Sealife Centre and Pevensey Castle (where the Romans invaded). The area is also well known for its local vineyards including Chapel Down and Sedlescombe. A trip to Tenterden - often referred to as the Jewel of the Weald - is an alternative and, for garden lovers, Sissinghurst (National Trust) is not to be missed. Further National Trust places to visit include Smallhythe Place, Scotney Castle and Bodiam Castle. Day trips to France are possible with the Channel Tunnel a mere 30-minute drive.
