Surrounded and protected by a rugged cliff line that provides excellent cliff top walks and breathtaking views across the RSPB Bird Sanctuary at Bempton and onwards to Filey Brigg. Traditional seaside towns such as Bridlington, with miles of sandy beaches, and leisure facilities including a swimming pool and spa pavilion, is just 3 miles. The seaside resort of Scarborough boasts two beautiful beaches and was featured in the TV series The Royal. A leisurely stroll along the South Cliff and Esplanade affords panoramic views across to the 12th century castle ruins. Offering excellent shopping, galleries and museums and of course its very own theatre where plays by the well-known author Alan Ayckbourn can be enjoyed. The Hind House has been refurbished in 2018 to a very good standard and was the original living quarters for the farm works at Cottam Warren Farm. Oakwood is situated just in front of Sewerby Hall and Gardens, a beautiful Georgian mansion set in 50-acres of landscaped gardens, plus a zoo to keep the children entertained. This detached property lies in the village of Sewerby, on the clifftops of the east Yorkshire coast overlooking the bay of Bridlington. Built in 1696, this terraced holiday home is oozing with character and charm, and has been tastefully decorated and furnished, using a contemporary mix of new, vintage and up-cycled furniture and fittings. Nell’s Cottage is situated in the popular old town of Bridlington, which was made famous by the film ‘Dad’s Army’. The property used to be a sweet shop and boasts a delightful private terraced area to the rear, which is great for socialising and an al fresco supper in the summer.

The property is set back from the old town of Bridlington which used to be two separate towns, but over the years it has now joined to make one. Most visitors go straight to the seafront, but there is also a beautiful cosmopolitan part of the old town. The main street has lots of little independent shops and galleries, as well as good restaurants and local pubs. At the far end of the main street, you reach the Priory Church, one of Bridlington’s hidden gems. For over 900 years, this church has been serving the people of Bridlington and is renowned for its excellent choir and musical events that are held throughout the year. The Bayle Museum dates back to the 12th-century and is situated just in front of the Priory Church. This used to be the gatehouse to the Priory and is now a fantastic museum.

The seaside resort of Bridlington is a bustling fishing harbour, with lots to see and do. It has been popular over the years with families, due to its large sandy beaches and the traditional seaside donkeys, sticks of rock and sandcastles. On an evening why not enjoy a night at the popular Bridlington Spa, host to lots of international acts. From the seafront you can catch the land train to Sewerby Hall, just a short ride along the clifftops which is always a favourite with children. Sewerby Hall is just one of many stately homes in the area. A free Sewerby Hall family pass (2 adults/2 children) is available to Nell’s guests during their stay. There’s also Burton Agnes Hall, Sledmere and of course, Castle Howard to name a few.

In less than an hour you can be in Hull or York. Hull being voted the city of culture 2017 and York has been voted one of the UKs best tourist destinations, steeped in history and definitely worth a visit. North of Bridlington there’s Flamborough Head and Bempton Cliffs, where you’ll find the RSPB sanctuary, where thousands of migrating seabirds are seen here every year and is definitely a bird watcher’s paradise. Watch the puffins on the cliff sides or spot the seals and dolphins. The Way of the Roses cycle track starts in Morecambe (in Lancashire) and finishes in Bridlington and is a 170-mile coast to coast cycle route, perfect for the experience, and those wishing to enjoy a leisurely bike ride with family. The Roost is a 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom detached property with an enclosed garden in the grounds of Manor Farm Cottages in the village of Buckton. Close to the RSPB Bempton Cliffs Nature Reserve where you can see puffins, gannets and guillemots in their natural habitat, the area is a bird watcher’s haven, home to more than 250,000 sea birds. You can walk to Bempton Cliffs from the cottages, or it is a 5-minute drive.

There is some excellent cycling in the area with the Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Route on your doorstep, with its scenic 146-mile tour of the East Riding and North Yorkshire. The owner is a keen cyclist himself and knows exactly what you need by providing an excellent bike store, along with a repair and wash area and tools and sprays required for servicing the bikes.

The seaside resorts of Scarborough, Bridlington and Filey are just a short drive away with large, open sandy beaches, caves and coves, or for those of you who prefer a quieter resort, Flamborough Head is close by with stunning walks along the clifftops from North to South Landing.

Visit the stately homes and beautiful gardens of Burton Agnes, Castle Howard and Sledmere House, and a children’s zoo and land train at Sewerby Hall. The bustling market towns of Malton, Pickering and Beverley, renowned for its minster and racecourse, are all worth a visit.
