The cottages lie just a short distance from some of south Devon’s finest beaches and tourist attractions, including the historic town of Totnes which is just 15 minutes away and sits on the River Dart with cruises down river to Greenway and Dartmouth. A cosmopolitan town, Totnes, 7 miles away, has a vast array of independent shops, weekly markets, galleries, leisure centre and many lovely restaurants, bistros and cafés. The seaside towns of Paignton and Torquay are 40 minutes’ drive, and it is just a 15-minute drive to the yachting haven of Dartmouth, and the coastline between Dartmouth and Kingsbridge, both 7 miles away, has many stunning beaches, hidden coves and fantastic coastal walks.

Guests of these cottages can also enjoy a range of on-site facilities suitable for all the family, including a heated indoor swimming pool (available via a booking system) with a private changing room and shower. There is a large games room set over two floors, including a fitness room with a cross trainer, treadmill, rowing machine and exercise bike. The top floor of the games room has a full-size American pool table, big sofa and Sky TV. The bottom floor has table tennis and table football. On-site there is also a laundry and ironing room. This comfortable and spacious, 19th-century stone barn conversion is peacefully situated in rural West Devon, 9 miles from Tavistock and nestling on the western edge of Dartmoor and some 5 miles from the border with Cornwall. The cottage is internally oak beamed throughout, and features an impressive vaulted bedroom with kingsize bed and a large en-suite bathroom featuring separate bath and shower. The living room features a multi-fuel stove and Smart TV. The on-site store also stocks farm eggs and selected local jams and pottery when available. We are very dog friendly and dog towels, bowls and a stairgate are all provided.
Externally the cottage enjoys a courtyard setting being situated in the walled ’old farm yard’ adjacent to the owners’ home. There is off road parking right outside the front of the cottage. To the rear, the cottage enjoys its own enclosed and lawned garden with patio and garden furniture. This garden has a gate leading into 2 acres of grounds, which are also fenced and include a small orchard. Bike storage is available in a store next to the cottage. Beyond there are beautiful woodland walks on a pubic footpath accessed directly from the grounds.
This part of Devon has much to offer the visitor – there is the famous Panier Market in Tavistock, and Launceston Castle close by (both 8 miles). Both of these towns offer a choice of shopping. The city of Plymouth is situated 25 miles to the south with its famous Barbican and Lido. Dartmoor National Park is approx. 7 miles away at Lydford. The cottage is only a 10-minute drive from the A30 (Devon and Cornwall’s main arterial road), making Bodmin Moor and the sandy beaches of north Cornwall (Bude, Boscastle etc) less than 40 minutes’ drive. Water sports and fishing are available locally at Roadford Lake, 5 miles away. There is one of the Southwest’s most renowned farm shops in Lifton, 3 miles away, where there are also three pubs. There are also five major National Trust houses and three preserved steam railways all within a 30-mile radius of the cottage.

In the grounds of the owners’ very well-presented and maintained fishing venue, these three holiday properties (refs 29794, 30788 and 31308) are well-equipped to ensure a restful holiday. Kingfisher is a detached, single-storey cottage, sleeping six guests, The Lodge is set over two floors and sleeps four guests, and Mole is semi-detached and also sleeps four guests. The cottages have their own enclosed, lawned garden with sitting-out area and views across the beautiful grounds. There are two well-stocked coarse fishing lakes at Riverton which are included in the price of your stay, as well as a third beautiful lake (members only).

If you are not fishing, there is still plenty to do in this lovely part of Devon. Located just outside the regional town of Barnstaple, the cottages are in an ideal location to explore this stunning part of the British Isles. A few miles away, you have access to some of the best beaches in the country including Woolacombe and Saunton. The nearest beach at Instow is ideal for children or just a great place to walk off life’s stresses, and then enjoy a meal or drink at one of the pubs and restaurants along the front. The town of Barnstaple is only a short drive away and has most amenities you may require as well as a busy high street and market. There are numerous places of interest close by including the RHS gardens at Rosemoor, Dartington Crystal and the historic fishing village of Clovelly. For the younger ones, a visit to the Big Sheep or Milkyway is a good option. There is walking on Dartmoor or hire a bike and cycle the Tarka Trail. Clay pigeon shooting can be organised by prior arrangement with the owner. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

Tucked away down a very quiet country lane is this 16th-century Grade II listed thatched cottage. The property is one of a pair and has been completely renovated, offering some original features including inglenook fireplace, beams, historic bread oven and also very contemporary touches for today’s lifestyle.

Famous for its carpets, the original Axminster factory was opened in 1755 by Thomas Whitty and authentic British ’Axminsters’ are still made in the town by Axminster Carpets. Situated a few miles inland from the Jurassic Coast, guests can visit towns such as Beer, Branscombe, Sidmouth and Seaton with its famous tramway.

Tucked in the south east corner of Devon, Axminster is an ideal touring centre for the neighbouring counties of Somerset and Dorset, with Lyme Regis and Charmouth just 6 miles away.

Celebrity chef and TV presenter Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall has his very first River Cottage Canteen and Deli (an organic produce shop/market and canteen) here, and his River Cottage HQ is nearby in the Axe valley. There are many places to visit close by including many NT properties. This is an ideal spot for walking with a footpath close to the property. The Yarty Valley is a very peaceful area and ideal for bird watching, cycling the country lanes or just relaxing on the patio enjoying views of the river.
