Nestled within 240 acres of unspoilt farmland, in the glorious South Hams midway between Dartmoor and the stunning south Devon beaches, Wheeldon Farm Cottages are the perfect choice for family, friends and couples to enjoy a relaxing retreat or an action packed escape at any time of year. The cottages lie just a short distance from some of south Devon’s finest beaches and tourist attractions, including the historic town of Totnes which is just 15 minutes away and sits on the River Dart with cruises down river to Greenway and Dartmouth. A cosmopolitan town, Totnes, 7 miles away, has a vast array of independent shops, weekly markets, galleries, leisure centre and many lovely restaurants, bistros and cafés. The seaside towns of Paignton and Torquay are 40 minutes’ drive, and it is just a 15-minute drive to the yachting haven of Dartmouth, and the coastline between Dartmouth and Kingsbridge, both 7 miles away, has many stunning beaches, hidden coves and fantastic coastal walks.

Guests of these cottages can also enjoy a range of on-site facilities suitable for all the family, including a heated indoor swimming pool (available via a booking system) with a private changing room and shower. There is a large games room set over two floors, including a fitness room with a cross trainer, treadmill, rowing machine and exercise bike. The top floor of the games room has a full-size American pool table, big sofa and Sky TV. The bottom floor has table tennis and table football. On-site there is also a laundry and ironing room. In addition to all the motorbike fun, a range of other activities can also be organised locally, including horse riding, golf, go-karting and trout and carp fishing. Also, clay pigeon shooting, air rifle and archery are available - these are run by a fully qualified instructor and all equipment is provided. The activities run on a Monday, Thursday and Sunday. Ivory Cottage provides accommodation on two floors, on the first floor there are two bedrooms, a double and the second with bunk bed, also the bathroom with bath and shower are situated on the first floor. Downstairs you will find an open plan living/kitchen/dining area with all you need to make your stay a comfortable and convenient one. The kitchen has a washing machine and dishwasher. There is an electric fire and Smart TV in the living room. Outside you can enjoy the shared grounds of this large Devonshire estate including adjacent courtyard, outdoor heated swimming pool, children’s play areas and a clubhouse with Wi-Fi and pool table at cost. If you head to the beach to surf or to just relax then Woolacombe offers some of the best expanses of beach in the country it boasts 3 miles of golden sands, great surfing waves and a fantastic coastal footpath where there are numerous walks to be taken. Families can enjoy spending the day by the sea, which is patrolled by lifeguards in the summer, building sandcastles, playing beach games, exploring the rockpools for marine life and making the most of the location for its beautiful sunsets, one of the spectacles regularly enjoyed by locals and surfers out on their boards. There are shops, cafés, restaurants and a great boutique cinema in a local hotel too, all just 2½ miles away Woolacombe really does have something for everyone. Exmoor National Park with its magical night skies in Europe’s first Dark Sky Reserve is just 10 miles away and Lynton and Lynmouth 19 miles to the east with its incredible sea views, rugged cliffs and amazing funicular cliff railway. This opened in 1890 being the highest and steepest totally water powered railway in the world. There are several world-class beaches such as Saunton Sands, Croyde and Westward Ho! – all of which are famous for their surfing qualities, vast stretches of sand and great dunes. High Park House is the perfect venue for a large family holiday or group reunions/getaways. Built in 1845 High Park House features on the ground floor two living rooms with cosy wood burners and smart TVs, a formal dining room, a large kitchen/diner perfect for creating holiday feasts. Up on the first floor are seven bedrooms with five en-suites, to comfortably sleep sixteen guests. High Park House offers easy access to beaches, moors, golf courses, children friendly fun parks, and many other recreational activities. Bideford is the second largest town in North Devon with plenty to see and do including a lovely river front and port. The Southwest Coastal Path is a must for keen walkers and runners, as is the popular Tarka Trail, which stretches for c.180 miles and can be accessed locally. Swimming, surfing, canoeing and entertainment for all the family plus fishing are all close by. For a day with a difference why not take a trip across to Lundy Island? With regular trips from Bideford, measuring just 3 miles by ¾ mile, this entire island has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
Westward Ho!, the nearest seaside village offers an array of seaside amenities including some fascinating curiosity shops, restaurants and cafes. Within easy reach are two popular top attractions, The Big Sheep amusement farm park and The Ultimate Adventure Centre! Being very close to the A39 Atlantic Highway, the property is conveniently located for day trips to other beautiful places such as Exmoor National Park with stunning dark skies for great star gazing and locations such as Clovelly, Hartland and North Cornwall. Sherrill Farm Holiday Cottages is a complex of 13 delightful self catering cottages (refs UKC1427 to UKC1439), converted from the original 300 year old barns and farmhouse set within 16 acres of Devon farmland. Clustered around the central courtyard, the properties retain many original features and are charmingly furnished and decorated, with well-equipped kitchens. (Some properties are adjoining, whilst others occupy either the ground floor or the first floor of the same cottage). Located near Dartmoor and midway between Tavistock and Launceston on the Devon/Cornwall border, in wonderful rolling countryside.

Approached by its own private driveway, Sherrill Farm is a perfect spot to relax and unwind or to use as a base for exploring north and south Devon, and Cornwall.

This farm complex is a superb place for the entire family, and all guests have use of the large indoor heated swimming pool, Jacuzzi, gymnasium, bowling alley and games room. This leisure complex is open daily until 9pm. After an energetic swim you can step out onto the surrounding sun terrace and enjoy the stunning south-facing views, whilst the children keep themselves entertained in their own play area. There is also an all-weather tennis court available and rackets can be hired on site; a picnic area and a summerhouse along the banks of the ponds. This really is a beautiful area offering perfect family accommodation, peace and tranquillity.

There are three ponds within the grounds, one has been especially created to encourage wildlife and is set in beautiful surroundings. The other 2 ponds have been stocked with fish for those wishing to try their hand at this relaxing pastime (rods can be hired on site). Many bird species can be seen in the area as it is so quiet here and foxes and badgers are often seen on a summer’s evening.

A short drive away is the beautiful Tamar Valley dividing Devon and Cornwall, with picturesque and historical riverside villages including Morewellham. Within minutes you can be venturing out onto the Dartmoor National Park with over 250,000 acres of wild rugged open moorland, a haven for hikers or dog walkers. There are many exciting places to visit including Morwellham Quay and the National Trust properties of Cotehele, Buckland Abbey and Lydford Gorge with its White Lady Waterfall.

The historic market town of Tavistock is just 6 miles away and is a popular town with indoor pannier market and local shops selling locally produced foods. Horse riding is also available locally, as is trout fishing. Why not try canoeing on the River Tamar, or perhaps cycling on the Plym Valley track? The north and south coasts of both Devon and Cornwall are within easy reach by car and offer an amazing choice of splendid sandy beaches, a variety of water sports, cliff top walks, swimming, surfing and other seaside activities. Set in the heart of rolling Devon countryside, the privately owned Ashcombe country estate nestles in a quiet, beautiful valley filled with things to do and a short drive from the sandy beaches of Dawlish and Torquay. Enjoy walking around the estate’s hills and woodlands, swim in the heated indoor swimming pool, or relax in the sauna at Woodhouse Farm while children play on outdoor playground. Both The Cider Barn, a mile away and sleeping 16, and Nut Tree Farm, sleeping 28, have their own outdoor swimming pools for the summer.
The cottages are both comfortable and practical, with a wide range of Devon attractions right on the doorstep. All are maintained to very high standards with leather sofas, superfast Wi-Fi, flatscreen Smart TVs and very comfortable beds. Many retain original features, including oak beamed ceilings, and all have either Italian-tiled or wooden floors.
Sleeping from 4 to 22 people, and rated either 4 or 5 stars, the cottages can accommodate almost any party size, and an in-house chef (arranged direct with the owner) can be booked to take care of the catering.
The brilliant Ashcombe Adventure Centre for outdoor activities, is just under a mile down the lane. Available at extra cost for those 14 years and over, it offers quad bike safaris, clay pigeon shooting, archery, paintballing and more. Also located on the estate is ’A Touch of the Wild’, a camp-based forest activity club. Children can take part in bush-craft courses and activities ranging from camp fire cooking and toasting marshmallows to bug hunting and learning woodland skills - a day with the experienced staff will ensure youngsters come away with a new found love of the great outdoors. The Ashcombe Village Club opens on various evenings providing cheap beer in a cheerful atmosphere, event evenings, traditional summer fêtes and shows. Guests at Ashcombe can also enjoy foraged and wild walks that take place every Tuesday and last for around two hours. You can discover the simple pleasure of foraging from the abundance of wild foods in the Devon countryside, and also experience the perfect evening out dining under canopies in the Ashcombe Woodland at the Woodland Kitchen, open on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Grattan Cottage (ref UK11036) and Manor Cottage (ref UK11037) are set within the extensive grounds of the historic and Grade II listed Grattan Manor, just outside the village of Bow. A freshwater spring within the grounds is the apparent exact centre of Devon. Both cottages are furnished and equipped to a very good standard and each has its own unique character and charm. Wood burners, well-equipped kitchens and private patio areas all contribute to the appeal of the cottages. Both Grattan Cottage, which is detached, and Manor Cottage, a wing of a property, overlook the old orchard, a large lawned area with some of the remaining fruit trees. It’s ideal for sitting out on a warm summer’s day or taking the dog for an early morning stretch. Within the orchard, each cottage has a private sitting-out area; Grattan Cottage has a raised gazebo and the use of a barbecue hut in the orchard. Croquet is occasionally available by prior arrangement with the Lord of the Manor, i.e. the owner. All-weather tennis court (please bring your own equipment). Outdoor, open, shared swimming pool - available in the summer months and later if weather allows - in the attractive walled garden.

The village of Bow is a short distance away and has a pub and well-stocked local convenience store. Due to the central location, the cottages make an ideal base from which to explore the north and south of Devon, as well as the beautiful surrounding Devon countryside. The regional towns of Credit and Okehampton (considered the gateway to the Dartmoor National Park) are easily reached, and the towns provide a good range of shops and amenities.

On Dartmoor there are plenty of walks for all ages and abilities to enjoy this stunning and dramatic area, as well as some pretty villages with pubs and tea rooms. There are many fine beaches and coves along north or south Devon, steam trains here and there, and a trip to Lundy Island can be arranged from Bideford pier. Ask the owner for information on river boat excursions along the Dart, especially from Totnes on Dartmoor. Numerous places of interest close include the R.H.S. gardens at Rosemoor, Dartington Crystal (glass blowing etc.) and the unique, historic fishing village of Clovelly is not far from Port Isaac (remember ’Doc Martin?’). Visit the last castle to be built in England at Castle Drogo (National Trust), with a nearby excellent riverside pub. There is golf at Okehampton and nearby Crediton, or you can hire a bike and cycle the Tarka Trail at Great Torrington. Or simply relax amongst the beautiful grounfs surrounding the Manor. Nestled within the heart of North Devon’s rural ’Tarka the Otter’ country in beautiful countryside, yet just 10 miles from the glorious North Devon coast, Stowford Lodge Holiday Cottages are the perfect choice for a relaxing holiday at any time of year. The four pretty barn conversions, Warren Cottage (ref UKC2098), Halcyon Cottage (ref UKC2099), Tarquol Cottage (ref UKC2100) and Old Nog Cottage (ref UKC2101) are terraced and sit within a courtyard, whilst Tarka’s Holt Log Cabin (ref UKC2102) is detached, and all five enjoy use of the owner’s 6 acres of private parkland comprising an orchard, with a spacious children’s play area with swings and a climbing frame and animals to see including two Dartmoor ponies, sheep and hens. There’s also a level 1-acre field with a football goal and rugby posts, which is also ideal for kite flying and cricket. The ideal choice for a romantic break for two or a family holiday, the cottages are close to a wooded walk amongst numerous young trees running alongside the pony and sheep field, and an indoor heated swimming pool.

The stunning beaches of the North Devon coast are less than 10 miles away - with sailing, fishing and a sandy beach at Instow, surfing at Westward Ho!, Saunton Sands, Croyde Bay, Putsborough and Woolacombe, as well as lofty cliffs and headlands along the rocky fringes of Hartland. Lots of activities for friends and families nearby including golf, horse riding, sailing, fishing, shooting, cycle hire and walking. The Tarka Trail long distance footpath and cycle way passes within ¼ mile and the RHS gardens at Rosemoor are less than 2 miles away. The beautiful moorland areas of Exmoor and Dartmoor are also within easy reach.
