The magnificent rugged English Heritage coastline of Hartland and beyond runs across the farm in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering a perfect haven for walking and bird watching or just to get away from the hustle of every day life. From your doorstep, meander down the track and through the cornfield to the secluded Berry Beach. With its sandy gullies and shingle beach, you can while away the days here, rock pooling, boogie boarding, fishing or just relaxing with a good book. There are many circular walks through leafy green lanes, ancient woodland footpaths, bridleways and the South West Coastal Path. You can take in sights such as Hartland Point Lighthouse, Damehole Point, where the final scene of the film ’King Arthur’ was shot starring Kiera Knightley and Clive Owen, Berry Head and Blackpool Mill, where much of the BBC series ’Sense and Sensibility’ was filmed. A 40-minute walk from Blegberry along the coast path will take you to Hartland Quay, with its Maritime Museum, gift shop and pub, family friendly beach and breathtaking views. The famous sandy surfing beaches of Westward Ho! and Bude are an easy drive and for family fun, The Big Sheep and The Milky Way adventure parks are close by. There are numerous National Trust properties in the area, as well as the RHS gardens at Rosemoor and Docton Mill. Clovelly, with its quaint cobbled streets and picturesque harbour, is a must. The village of Hartland is just 3 miles and has a good selection of village shops and pubs, all serving local produce. The historic port of Bideford, with its lively market, as well as the Lundy Island ferry and array of shops and other amenities, is just 15 miles. Within a short drive you can be in the heart of Lyme Regis with its picturesque harbour, sandy beach, renowned Cobb where you can fossil hunt, fish, swim, go boating or simply wander around the quaint shops and restaurants in this characterful resort. The Heritage coast itself has many smaller seaside resorts you can visit, stretching from Exmouth in the west, or all the way to Weymouth and Portland in the east, taking the scenic coast road from West Bay and Bridport, with its superb views overlooking the Chesil Beach. There is a wealth of family activities and attractions to enjoy, ranging from the donkey sanctuary, River Cottage, Forde Abbey and Gardens, and Broadwindsor Craft Centre, to Crealey Adventure Park near Exeter, and south Somerset, with its Fleet Air Arm Museum, all of which are within easy reach. You will certainly have plenty to do - perhaps taking the dogs walking along the coastal path and climbing up Golden Cap, the highest point in the south of England. The house is situated 3 miles from the World Heritage Jurassic Coastline town of Sidmouth, that nestles beneath majestic red cliffs and the green hills of the glorious Sid Valley. Sidmouth, with it’s beautiful gardens and leisurely walks, Regency history, clean sandy and pebble beaches, great restaurants and friendly shops, is also renowned for it’s annual International Folk Festival held in August. Villages of exceptional beauty lie on the doorstep: Beer, with its amazing pebble beach and caves, Branscombe perfect for mackerel fishing or the town of Seaton, with its historic tramway and exhibitions. Take a trip to the Donkey Sanctuary, visit the stunning gardens at Bicton, or for a great family day out, there is Crealy Adventure Park or Pecorama with it’s miniature railway. For the very adventurous, visit Haldon Hill and try zip wires through the trees at Go Ape, or take your bike and go cycling off road on the many countryside trails that there are on offer.
