Farriers Lodge is a delightful detached barn conversion set on a working horse stud farm in open countryside, just outside the village of Brandesburton. It provides the perfect base for exploring not only the stunning Yorkshire Wolds and east coast, but also the vibrant towns of Beverley and Driffield.
Bright and welcoming, this dog friendly property has an open plan living space with a large fireplace complete with wood burner and deep sofas. The kitchen and dining area provides all the mod cons to enable the chef in the group to cook delicious home-made fayre throughout the holiday. The central staircase is flooded with natural light from the overhead Velux window and leads to the first floor, where you will find two well-appointed, cosy bedrooms. Both rooms are lovingly furnished with vaulted ceilings. The cottage is tastefully decorated throughout and oozes traditional Yorkshire charm and character. Outside, the small courtyard has seating and enjoys the sun for the majority of the day. It also boasts a private hot tub, the perfect place to relax and enjoy your favorite holiday tipple. As a working stud farm, the owners offer the opportunity to look around and see some of their world class stallions, mares and foals (this can be arranged on arrival). For those with their own horses, stabling is available so your four legged friend can also enjoy a holiday (charges and additional T&Cs apply).
Fraisthorpe Beach is perfect for dog walking and horse riding and is popular with locals for exercising horses all year round. The village of Brandesburton is home to a couple of pubs offering traditional ales and bar meals, alongside a number of shops and restaurants. A short drive brings you to the pretty Wolds town of Beverley offering a host of independent shops, cafés and restaurants. A day at Beverley Races or a round of golf at one of the many local golf courses are sure to keep everyone entertained. The seaside town of Hornsea is on the doorstep and with pony rides, ice-cream and fish and chips is a lovely unspoilt family destination. There is so much to do and see in the surrounding area including the RSPB reserve at Bempton Cliffs and the Nature Reserve at Sprun Point. Beach 6 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

The picturesque village of Hovingham, 2½ miles, with the historic Hovingham Hall (home to the Worsley family) has a village shop, a bakery and tea rooms, two pubs, a café and hair salon. Bustling market towns can be found at Helmsley, Easingwold, Pickering and Malton, all with an interesting array of eateries and shops and within a 30-minute drive. There are stately homes at Castle Howard and Nunnington Hall, abbey ruins at Rievaulx and Byland, and family fun at Flamingo Land and ‘Go Ape’ in Dalby Forest. The North York Moors and the seaside resorts of Whitby, Scarborough and Filey are all easily accessible, whilst the ancient walled city of York is just a 40-minute drive and not to be missed when visiting this beautiful part of Yorkshire. For those who love the country life and the great outdoors, this is a great place to stay. This detached barn conversion is situated in the North York Moors National Park in a secluded valley and surrounded by forest and beautiful countryside. Whisperdale Barn is situated on the owner’s smallholding and is accessed via a steep, rough forest track which may not be suitable for low vechicles down into the valley. The drive through the forest to the farm and Whisperdale Barn is approximately 1 mile of forest, but once you reach the valley the scenery is stunning and is a well-kept secret from the outside world. The barn has a great large utility room where you can dry the dogs off after a long walk on the forest trails or it makes for great storage for bikes. This is also a perfect space for bringing the children back from playing in the forest, kicking off their wellies and cleaning them up before enjoying the lovely warmth from the large multi-fuel burner.

This area of the county has some of the most beautiful scenery and an abundance of wildlife. From the barn you may see the deer in the distance, foxes, owls and many pheasants that will wander around the smallholding. You really are at one with nature here so a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Although the barn is in the forest, you are only 5 miles from the seaside town of Scarborough, which is a great family resort with two very large sandy beaches, perfect for the children. Scarborough is also home to the Alpamare Waterpark, Sealife Centre and the wonderful Peasholm Park, where you can hire boats and pedalos on the lake. There are lots of restaurants, shops and bars, as well as a fantastic open air theatre, the largest in Europe, that hosts many international acts in the summer. Dalby Forest is just a short drive or bike ride from the cottage, and is famous for its world cup mountain bike trails from beginners to the extreme courses. If you can tear yourself away, you will find yourself in Wells-next-the-Sea in just under half an hour. Here there is a lovely mix of artisan and traditional seaside shops, restaurants, cafés, pubs and amusements. There is also a narrow gauge railway that takes you to the gorgeous wide, sandy beach and a much photographed quay. Equidistant is the bustling coastal market town of Sheringham, with Sheringham Park, North Norfolk Railway and two museums. Head along the coast and visit Cromer with its famous Edwardian seafront and pier. Travel east or west along this stunning coastline and you will find a chain of pretty seaside towns and villages offering marshes, beaches and quays. Make time for a trip to the medieval city of Norwich, with its splendid Norman castle, museums and guided ghost walks. Go shopping in the Norwich Lanes, alleyways of colourful independent shops, and then enjoy a meal, perhaps before taking in a show at one of the theatres. Located in the horseshoe bend of the River Severn, Arlingham is surrounded by fantastic views of the Cotswold Hills and the Forest of Dean. Within a lovely woodland walk you will find the local village inn, with home cooked food, real ales, fine wines and a warm country welcome. Also within walking distance is another award-winning inn, renowned for its fresh seafood. Several other pubs, restaurants and take-aways are only a short drive away.
This wonderful area is an ideal base for circular riverside and country walks, and to explore the Severn Way. The river runs for 2 miles along the farm, with its own walks and perfect picnic spots. To reach the holiday properties, guests will need to pass through the village of Frampton-on Severn, which is home to the longest village green in England offering two pubs, a village shop, a café and canal side walks. Further along the canal bank in the village of Saul, guests will find a café which offers a wonderful spot for tea and cake whilst watching the boats go by. Saul also has a marina. You are also primely positioned to reach Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetland Park, Cotswold Water Park, Berkeley Castle and Butterfly House, Prinknash Abbey (bird and deer park), Thornbury Castle and Cheltenham Race Course and The historic town of Tewkesbury with its famous abbey, Westonbirt Arboretum, Stratford-upon-Avon, the Roman city of Bath, Regency Cheltenham and the cathedral cities of Bristol and Gloucester with their historic docks are also close by.
