The coastal path passes close to the property and provides beautiful walks and views along the dramatic coastline. Polperro is a quaint, historic fishing village, just a short distance away from the coast. There are numerous cycle routes around the area and many surfing spots along the coast. Various tourist attractions are nearby, including The Monkey Sanctuary, many National Trust houses and gardens along with golf courses to visit. The Adrenalin Quarry is a must for the adventurous and it is only a short drive away. The Eden Project is also within easy driving distance and it provides an exceptional day out, as does Padstow, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Fowey, a picturesque seafaring town providing sailing, kayaking and pleasure trips along the River Fowey. Deep sea fishing and other water sports can all be enjoyed in Looe, along with woodland and coastal walks nearby. To the east of the town is the historic city of Plymouth, with its National Marine Aquarium, theatres, cinemas, bowling and shopping, which can be reached from the historic village of Kingsand, right into Barbican, while to the west is Fowey, home to the royal sailing regatta and many galleries, shops and restaurants. Enjoy the mile of golden sand that stretches down the coast, where you will find the locals’ favourite beach bar, pizzeria and Rick Stein’s famous ‘chippy’, a great walk with a superb reward.
Newquay provides an abundance of attractions suitable for the whole family, from wide sandy beaches, restaurants, beachside cafes, a zoo, a Sea Life Centre, parks, sports centres, swimming pools, surf schools, sea fishing, go karting, horse riding and golf. The golf course, which is adjacent to the beach, is within walking distance, as are many of the local attractions. Surrounding the town are many picturesque and secluded villages with quiet spots to get away from the hustle and bustle. Padstow and Watergate Bay are also close by and home to Rick Stein’s and Jamie Oliver’s restaurants (booking essential).
Further afield will bring you to the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Lanhydrock House and many other National Trust gardens and historic houses. Swansfield Stables is situated on the outskirts of Alnwick and enjoys a tranquil setting on a smallholding. The original stables is thought to have been designed by the acclaimed 19th century Newcastle architect John Dobson. At the rear of Swansfield Stables there is a peaceful cobbled courtyard which gives access to a detached former cart shed, which has been beautifully transformed to create this self-catering holiday accommodation. The open plan living space covers the entire ground floor where a wood burner creates a cosy ambience. The family bedroom and shower room are on the first floor and immaculately presented throughout.

The welcoming owners of Swansfield Stables are conveniently on hand giving ample privacy to guests but happy to help ensure visitors enjoy their stay. There is shared use of a wood fired pizza oven available along with outdoor furniture; an idyllic spot to dine al fresco.

There is a wide array of amenities available within the heart of the historic market town of Alnwick, most within half a mile. Alnwick Garden is a popular tourist attraction where there is a spectacular Cascade Waterfall and restaurant within the largest tree house in Europe. Alnwick Castle is also well worth a visit.

The picturesque town of Rothbury, which sits at the foot of the Simonside Hills, is a short drive to the west. The National Trust property at Cragside is situated on the edge of Rothbury and is nestled within 1000 acres to explore.

Heading east of Alnwick is the stunning Heritage coastline which this area is renowned for. With miles of golden, sandy beaches to discover, Swansfield Stables makes an excellent base from which to explore the heather-clad hills to the west and the stunning seashore to the east. Bow Cottage lies in the ancient town of Fordwich, known as the smallest town in Great Britain and is a comfortable terraced holiday cottage which has been renovated to a very good standard, retaining stone clad walls. The front-facing living room boasts a feature bow window and woodburner, and the galley-style kitchen, which has tiled floors, leads into the dining room with patio doors opening on to a patio. This is a great location for walks directly from Fordwich and the outlying area, for exploring, and for sampling the local ales in one of the two local pubs. Explore the historic city of Canterbury with its magnificent cathedral, learn about Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales or take a boat trip on the River Stour. Cycle the Crab and Winkle Way, visit the coast at Herne Bay or spot a seal and sample the oysters at Whitstable, 12 miles. This Grade II-listed Tudor cottage is situated in the centre of Canterbury on Ivy Lane, a small and quiet historic lane in a conservation area close the famous city walls. Just a couple of minutes’ walk from Canterbury’s high street with its huge range of restaurants, bars and shopping facilities.

This beautiful, 500-year-old Grade II-listed cottage in the centre of Canterbury dates back to the 16th century and was lovingly refurbished by Canterbury architect Carl Trenfield working alongside a master craftsman in 2016. The house was also featured in The Times ‘Thirty Best Homes in Britain’.

Inside the cottage, the ground floor benefits from both cosy traditional features, such as the original inglenook fireplace and beamed walls and ceilings, as well as fresh and airy contemporary clean lines. The ground floor is a single open plan space incorporating living area, a bespoke kitchen and dining area opening out through French doors to the pretty private courtyard garden, a lovely space to enjoy a quiet morning coffee.

The bespoke kitchen is fitted to a high standard, with natural granite work surfaces and integrated appliances along with all the essential small appliances that you will need for your stay.

The master joiner’s craftmanship can be particularly appreciated in cleverly concealed storage that runs the length of the dining area which conceal extra cupboard space and a discreetly hidden tall radiator.

The living area has beautiful, exposed beams and features an original inglenook fireplace, with a highly efficient wood-burning stove. Together with the comfy chesterfield Natuzzi sofa, this area is perfect for snuggling up in the evenings.

Winding stairs lead up to the first floor, comprising landing area, two bedrooms and a bathroom. The master bedroom is to the rear of the house and has built-in wardrobes, custom made vanity unit and view of the gardens. Bedroom two is to the front and has exposed beams, custom made fitted wardrobes, desk/vanity table area and view of the lane. The bathroom is fully fitted with solid marble tiles, and thoughtfully designed with Villeroy and Boch fittings including a bath with a rain shower over, further custom-made storage all concealed by large mirrors.

The sunny courtyard garden to the rear of the house, brick paved with seating area, was designed by landscape architect Eleanor Trenfield, and includes a functional shed for bins and bikes storage and a side access to the passage between the house and neighbouring property.

A coffee shop and a quaint 18th-century pub/restaurant are just a minute walk from the cottage and are both dog-friendly. A supermarket for all your essentials is also just a few minutes’ walk.

Also nearby are the Marlowe Theatre, Curzon Cinema, Canterbury Christ Church University and Canterbury East & West railway stations, all within an easy walk, as well as St. Augustine’s Abbey, one of the country’s most notable historic sites and part of the Canterbury UNESCO World Heritage Site. Canterbury is a beautiful and buzzing cathedral city in Kent steeped in History, part of which forms a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city centre is full of excellent places for shopping, dining, entertainment, and culture.

Its proximity to the charming seaside town of Whitstable and Kent countryside, as well as excellent links to London (under 1 hour to St. Pancras) make this a wonderful place to stay.

You enter this charming cottage straight into the living/dining room, with a lovely large window overlooking the pretty front garden. With a patio and lawn, this is a balmy sunny spot for the summer months. A Smart TV complete with Netflix account provided and an Amazon Echo speaker allow you to enjoy your holiday with all the mod cons. In winter with the open fire lit, the cottage is warm and welcoming. The well-equipped kitchen has a small table for two for a quiet morning cup of tea before the rest of the house wakes. On the first floor, the master bedroom to the front of the property offers a double bed overlooking the garden. The famous Mermaid Inn can be glimpsed from the window too. In bedroom two, the Laura Ashley wallpaper and pretty floral bed throw provide a comfy bedtime retreat. From the kitchen you have a door leading to the small courtyard with table and chairs for enjoying balmy summer evenings.

Step out of your front door and you have a pretty tea room at the end of the row of terraces, handy if you don’t fancy cooking breakfast or for sampling their cake offerings after a day out exploring. You are perfectly situated for the local deli, banks, greengrocers, restaurants, pubs and everything else you would expect from a bustling high street. A gentle stroll and you can visit the Heritage Centre, where you can watch the town model’s ’Sound and Light’ show which goes into detail about the history and the colourful past of Rye and its inhabitants. Just a 10-minute drive away is the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve where you can walk along the sea wall and out on to the marshes to enjoy flora and fauna. You can choose to walk out to Camber Castle, originally located on a shingle spit and where once it protected the towns of Rye and Winchelsea before the sea receded. Although no longer open to visitors it is still a striking landmark worth a visit.

The award-winning beach of Camber Sands is just a short drive away and has miles of sandy beach and dunes to explore. Visit the rock pools at low tide on the pebbly beach at Pett Level, just a 10-minute drive from Rye. The towns of Hastings and Ashford are around a 30-minute drive away and here you can get mainline trains to London if you wish to explore the capital for a day. The towns of Tenterden and Canterbury are all within easy reach by car and are well worth a visit. If you would like to take a day trip to the continent, the Eurostar can be picked up from Ashford International station and trains to Paris, Lille and Bruges are available. Alternatively, the ferries run from Dover just 45 minutes away or the Channel Tunnel from Folkestone, a 45-minute drive.
