Its bustling centre has an abundance of quality restaurants, pubs serving local cask ales, independent shops as well as outdoor and fashion brands. There are also plenty of delis, bakeries, coffee shops and local craft stalls. Famous for its narrow streets and courtyards, this traditional market town is one not to be missed. If you like culture, check out the Theatre By The Lake, ¾ mile away with award winning arts and drama on the banks of Derwentwater. From the lake you can hire a rowing boat or even take a dip. For family fun, why not try Puzzling Place ½ mile away? This is a mind-boggling attraction based on optical illusions, or visit the Derwent Pencil Museum, home to the largest pencil in the world. The towns of Ambleside, Bowness and Windermere are all easily accessible and offer an abundance of restaurants, shops and bars.
