Situated inbetween Windermere and Bowness, you are just a short walk from either, ideal for enjoying the local shops and eateries or to experience a trip out on Lake Windermere. The property is also ideally located within an easy drive or cycle to one of the many hundreds of walking routes or excursions that are enjoyed in the south Lakes and the Lake District on a daily basis. For the outdoor sports enthusiast there are activities ranging from abseiling and climbing to bushcraft and sailing. Staveley is a lovely, working and historic village with a celebrated gastro-pub and the Hawkshead Brewery, with good food available in both as well as in the much-loved café and the fish and chip shop. There is a grocer, a butcher, an award-winning baker and pizzeria, an artisan ice cream maker, a coffee roaster, a cycle super-store, a garage, a railway station and more. Here the River Gowan flows through the village and meets the River Kent, which provides a peaceful backdrop to the main street. Staveley is located just 12 miles off the M6, 4.5 miles from Kendal and 3.5 miles to Windermere and the popular tourist magnet of Bowness-on Windermere, offering a wide range of restaurants and gastropubs serving every possible type of cuisine you could want, from takeaway food to fine dining. You’ll find there an abundance of bars and pubs offering locally produced ales, cocktails and guest craft beers. Here you can take the Windermere steamers to Lakeside at the Southern point of the Lake and Ambleside in the North. You’ll also find several popular tourist attractions including The Beatrix Potter Attraction, which is great fun, or Brockhole where older children can enjoy a treetop safari on the high ropes. In Kendal you’ll find more of the major high street brands and supermarkets. It is itself a lovely market town and excellent for a day of sightseeing and shopping. Brook House 1 is a beautiful 17th century, beamed cottage overlooking a stream, with a wood burner, its own enclosed garden and just a couple of minutes’ stroll to the pub serving food and local ales. There is a fitted open plan kitchen/dining room well equipped for a family holiday. There is a spacious living room with a wood burner and a ground floor wet room. On the first floor there are four bedrooms, with the master benefiting from an en-suite, the other bedrooms are serviced by an additional bath/shower room with toilet. Brook House Holiday Cottages are located in the heart of Bassenthwaite village in the northern region of The Lake District National Park, Cumbria, approximately 15-minute drive from the towns of Keswick and Cockermouth. This is an excellent base to explore some of the quieter corners of the Lake District. Bassenthwaite village is 2 miles from the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake (an ideal walk to the only official lake in the Lake District) and 2 miles from the foot of Skiddaw, the fourth highest mountain in the Lake District. There are excellent walks for all abilities straight from the cottage door or after a short drive away.
The Lake District Wildlife Park is just a 5-minute drive from the cottage, while Mirehouse historic house and adventure playgrounds is under 10 minutes drive towards Keswick.
The Lakes Distillery is under 10 minutes drive towards Cockermouth offering guided tours, or for those wanting to treat themselves with some pampering, there is a spa just 5 minutes drive from the cottage. Keswick is a magnet for the Lake District visitor with Lake Derwentwater, several parks including crazy golf, mini golf and putting, all its outdoor shops, cafés, restaurants, galleries, museum, cinema, theatre, brewery and more. Cockermouth has a visitor centre, antique shops, Jennings Brewery, Wordsworth House (the birthplace of the poet William Wordsworth), the annual food festival in September and a good selection of unique independent shops and eateries. Nearest shops in Keswick or Cockermouth, 15 minutes drive or many supermarkets do on-line deliveries, pub and restaurant 200 yards.

This lovely semi-detached property is ideal for larger families wanting a comfortable stay close to all the amenities of Keswick. Located on the fringe of the town centre, and just a short level walk into town, The Birches offers spacious accommodation for up to eight guests.

For enjoyable days out, there are plenty of places to visit, including Aira Force waterfall, Wetheriggs Pottery Museum and Penrith Castle. Also, in the area surrounding Penrith is the wonderful Rheged Discovery Centre, Lowther Leisure and Wildlife Park, Dalemain Historic House and Gardens and beautiful Hutton in the Forest.
