Welcome to The Captains House in Pendeen, an impressive holiday retreat that can comfortably accommodate up to eight guests, and yes, your furry friends are welcome too! Nestled amidst the picturesque Pendeen Peninsula, this family-friendly haven offers awe-inspiring views of the dramatic coastline, making it a truly idyllic escape for nature enthusiasts and coastal lovers alike. This is ‘Poldark’ country; you can imagine the smugglers at night coming into the coves in their small boats, hiding their contraband.
As you step inside The Captains House, you’ll be greeted by a cosy and inviting interior, thoughtfully designed to provide a comfortable stay for you and your loved ones. The accommodation features spacious bedrooms, ensuring a restful night’s sleep after adventurous days exploring the region. The well-equipped kitchen allows you to prepare delightful meals for your family and friends, or perhaps even indulge in some local Cornish delicacies. One of the highlights of The Captains House is its beautiful garden, where you’ll find a wooden gate that opens directly onto the famous Southwest Coast Path, this pathway provides endless opportunities for exhilarating hikes and leisurely walks, revealing stunning vistas of the surrounding sea and rugged cliffs.
After a day of exploration, you can unwind and relax in the wood-fired hot tub located in the garden, imagine soaking in warm, bubbling water, surrounded by nature’s beauty, and overlooking the sparkling sea - it’s a truly rejuvenating experience that will leave you feeling refreshed. If the weather is bad, sit in the conservatory and snuggle up, watch the fantastic night skies, play one of the board games or read a good book.
As for things to do in the area, Pendeen and its surroundings offer a wealth of activities and attractions. The historic Pendeen lighthouse, perched on the cliffs, will give you an insight into its maritime history. The area is surrounded by mining heritage, and you can visit Geevor Tin Mine or Botallack mines featured in Poldark. Portheras Cove is ½ mile away, and Portherras Beach (a secluded and dog-friendly cove perfect for picnics and paddling) is one of the many beaches in the area. If you travel further you will come to Porthcurno beach, a stunning secluded beach and how to the famous outdoor Minack theatre, carved into the cliffs. The nearest town is St Just full of artisan shops, galleries restaurants, pubs, and cafes, for a full day out head to Lands’ End just over 10 miles away.
Two dogs are welcome (but please keep off the furniture!) and there is a designated doggy shower outside as well as dog hairdryer.
The hot tub is emptied and cleaned before each arrival. Full instructions for filling and heating can be found in the welcome folder.

Step outside into the expansive private garden, a haven of tranquillity and indulgence, enclosed in its own wooden hut a hot tub beckons for moments of relaxation, accompanied by a convenient shower room with toilet. The manicured lawn, adorned with established shrubs, creates a picturesque backdrop, ideal for lazing in the glorious sunshine. A spacious patio invites al fresco dining, making it an ideal spot to savour meals in the open air, surrounded by the beauty of nature. In the evenings it is a fantastic location to watch the night skies and plan the next day’s adventure.
There is so much to do; Penzance town is full of history, the cobbled streets merge seamlessly with the large fishing harbour, visit the galleries or the gardens with their exotic plants, or pop into one of the cafés, bars and restaurants. The Scillonian ferry runs from Penzance to St Mary’s on the Isles of Scilly, why not book in a day trip whilst you are here. Just next to Penzance is the fishing village of Newlyn, walk along the harbour side and watch the trawlers bring in their daily catch, the local fishmongers offer a daily selection of freshly caught fish and shellfish or if you don’t want to cook, pop into one of the restaurants and try the catch of the day. Obviously, the area has beautiful beaches, Marazion not only has a beautiful beach but is also home to St Michaels Mount, at low tide you can walk across to the mount. For nature lovers not only are there beautiful gardens but the coast paths offer fantastic scenery and multitudes of wildlife, at Porthcurno you may even catch a glimpse of a basking shark or dolphin. Two Bare Feet is a stunningly presented, spacious modern home with a large patio garden and hot tub. The living area is spacious and has a pool table, high ceilings, luxurious sofas and chairs and a 50" curved Smart TV. The bedrooms are well proportioned, the master has a 6’ bed and an en-suite shower room. Throughout The Palms the style is modern and contemporary, the decor is immaculate and there is a wonderfully bright and lively ambience. This is a gem of a holiday destination.
Newquay town centre, with its plethora of lively cafes, bars, and restaurants, is on your doorstep. Here you can soak up the surfer lifestyle in this thriving tourist destination. Newquay has blossomed through the years and is now a vibrant buzzing community with many different events scheduled throughout the year from surfing competitions to car and music festivals. There is a wide choice of beaches from the surfers haven of Fistral to the more secluded Lusty Glaze and also Harbour Beach and Porth, all of which have golden sands and lifeguard cover during the season. If the weather is inclement then Newquay Zoo is half a mile down the road, or there is the Blue Reef Aquarium. Beach 1 mile.

Completed in late 2022, Rosefern is a stunning detached house of contemporary design with underfloor heating throughout. Tintagel is inextricably linked to the legend of King Arthur and is steeped in history. A visit to the English Heritage site of Tintagel Castle, where legend and historical fact alike meet stunning scenery, is a definite must while in the area and for Arthurian enthusiasts it is unmissable! There are many beaches in the area for surfers and sunseekers alike including Trebarwith Strand, Bossiney and the Castle Beach all in walking distance along beautiful coastal paths. Much of the North Cornish coastline is owned by the National Trust and is a haven for wildlife, providing fabulous walking opportunities with many well-trodden routes.
There are many pretty coves and inlets to discover along this coastline including Crackington Haven and Boscastle. A bit further to the south is the fishing port of Padstow and quaint Port Isaac of Doc Martin fame and 20 miles to the north is the fabulous coastal town of Bude. If you fancy crossing over the ‘border’ into Devon and enjoy open spaces then Dartmoor National Park is 33 miles or so to the east – here you can enjoy a day of walking and discover the vast moorland and roam the craggy landscape, defined by forests, rivers, wetlands and rock formations or tors. Or search the Neolithic tombs, Bronze Age stone circles and abandoned medieval farmhouses in this amazing landscape!

Your holiday home offers excellent accommodation on three floors. There is a spacious open plan living, dining and kitchen area, offering an eclectic mix of modern appliances and sumptuous furnishings to relax in, with some wonderful artwork adorning the walls. The first floor offers a bedroom complete with kingsize bed, a twin room, and a further bedroom with bunk beds. All are furnished to a high standard. You will also find the bright and airy family bathroom complete with walk-in shower on this floor. Stairs lead up to the second floor boasts the master bedroom, with kingsize bed and TV. The rear garden is fully enclosed and has garden furniture where morning coffee or evening meal with a favourite beverage can be enjoyed as the sun sets on another adventurous day.
