There is a raised path which guests need to take care when using that really open up the views over the Sussex Downs.

    There are many attractive period properties in the village and it’s a delight to wander through, including the Norman Church of St Mary’s where you can walk through the church grounds and the views quickly open out onto the Arun Valley and the South Downs. This area is ideal for walking and from the lower slopes of the Downs there are wonderful views to the coast and to the east and west. Arundel two miles away is a historic market town dominated by the symbolic castle that can be seen to the south of Burpham. It offers a plethora of craft and antique shops as well as restaurants and tea rooms. It’s a great place to visit and just enjoy the hospitality during any day of the week.

    Arundel Castle is the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. The castle has been seasonally open to visitors for nearly 200 years and is one of the great treasure houses of England and is home to priceless works of art in stunning rooms. Climbing the 131 steps to the Keep which dates from the 11th Century to take in the views over Arundel and The South Downs is definitely worth the effort. Beyond the castle grounds is Arundel Park which is clearly visible across the valley from the cottage. The River Arun winds its way around the town and is a magnet for wildlife. With more than 60 acres of ponds lakes and reed beds at Arundel Wetland Trust attracts some of the world’s most spectacular ducks geese and swans. The best way to enjoy the river is on a river cruise stopping off at the pub for a bite to eat or just some liquid refreshments.

    Further afield Climping Beach and Littlehampton’s West Beach are only a short drive away. This is a beautiful unspoilt length of beach of Special Scientific Interest and at the eastern end beside the mouth of the River Arun is the West Beach. Goodwood and Fontwell racecourses are nearby along with the cathedral city of Chichester with its excellent Festival Theatre noted for not only the quality of productions but also the fact many world premieres are featured as well. If you fancy a day in the city, Arundel mainline station is on a direct route to London so why not mix the cosmopolitan capital with this great place to stay.

Brighton Eastbourne Lewes Hastings and Alfriston are an easy day trip. Half an hour away Royal Tunbridge Wells is a great shopping and dining destination and if you are planning a trip to London this is the easiest commute. Nearby Ashdown Forest covers 14,000 acres of lowland heathland that has never been cultivated and offers extensive opportunities for walking. There is a slight setback from the main road where the cottage is located. The cottage dates back from 1904, and the rooms downstairs are separated by open doorways. The kitchen is a reasonable size with country-style cabinets. The kitchen window looks out over the small patio area and the field where two white horses live. The kitchen has everything you need for a home-from-home staycation. The kitchen then leads to the cosy living room where you will find an open fire. This is the perfect space to relax after a long day on the canal which is less than a 5-minute walk away. From the living room, there is an open doorway that leads into the dining area with a bar. This room looks out to the garden, and there are two sets of French doors leading to the garden. On the first flight of stairs to the first floor, you will find the family bathroom with a walk-in shower and a view of the field at the back of the house. There are two bedrooms on this floor, and any of these rooms will be the perfect place to get a good night’s sleep. Up the stairs to the second floor, you have the third bedroom with a double bed and another family bathroom with a free-standing roll-top bath. You can relax here in a gorgeous bubble bath while the rest of the family is downstairs enjoying the sumptuous living room.
    There is so much to do in and around Loxwood. There are two pubs nearby, both within walking distance, both offer food and receive favourable reviews. If you fancy a day on the canal, you can book boat trips and even take a Santa cruise during the Christmas holiday time. This can be booked via the Wey and Arun Canal Trust. The Wey and Arun Canal is the idyllic spot for a bit of bird watching and taking in all that nature has to offer. If you do not fancy a boat trip, then there are many scenic walks including The Wey-South Path. This is a walking route linking the North Downs Way and South Downs Way. If you are a keen golfer, there are some great golf courses nearby. The pretty town of Chichester is not too far away, and Arun Cottage is a convenient base for any of the Goodwood events and for the Loxwood Joust festival.
