About this property

The Queen’s Head is a dog-friendly village pub with a difference - lovingly renovated, whilst retaining much of its 17th Century character. You'll have everything you need and want from a dog-friendly cosy country pub – a roaring fire in the Winter, a copper-topped bar, original stone walls and exposed-beam ceilings, fabulous breakfast and stylish rooms plus a wonderful welcome for you and your four legged friend.

The Queen's Head was restored by its owner, Charles Lowther, who absolutely loves dogs and whose family has 10 in total. Your dog will no doubt rub noses with the locals and their dogs. The hotel's decor is stylish, a blend of rustic charm and contemporary comfort. The bedrooms, in particular, have a distinct country house style, and are furnished with both antiques and bold wallpaper. The use of carefully selected antiques adds a touch of character to each room, infusing a sense of history and heritage, creating a space where guests can unwind in an environment that feels both luxurious and familiar.

The country inn serves a full English Lowther Estate breakfast and the bar is open for drinks and bar snacks. Evening meals are not available at present however you could dine at our nearby sister pub the George and Dragon Clifton, just a short drive away. Here the menu showcases the very best of local produce, featuring hearty dishes that reflect the richness of the Cumbrian cuisine (advance booking essential).

The location is ideal for nature lovers, surrounded as it is with amazing walks in the picturesque Cumbrian countryside. So whether you fancy a leisurely stroll with your dog or a more adventurous hike up Cat Bells, Loughrigg Fell or Scafell Pike, the hotel is the perfect getaway for you and your furry friend. This delightful country pub, which is situated in the charming village of Askham, makes dogs feel that little bit special - providing them with a doggy welcome pack including treats and a map of local walks.

Dine with Your Dog

<div>Dine with your dog in the hotel's atmospheric restaurant from Thursday to Monday. In early 2024, the restaurant underwent a complete makeover, introducing a new state-of-the-art wood-fired pizza oven alongside a fresh menu featuring pizzas, sides, and desserts. The pizza menu changes with the seasons, with ingredients sourced from local or artisan suppliers. Produce such as wild garlic, wild mushrooms, chilies, sausages, and chicken are featured on the menu. Where possible, produce is grown and foraged by the hotel. The dog-friendly restaurant is open from midday to 7:30 pm from Thursday to Monday. No reservations are required. When the restaurant is closed, or when you fancy a change in scenery, explore one of the many dog-friendly restaurants and pubs in and around Askham.&nbsp;</div>

Bow wow factor

Has to be the dog-friendly atmosphere - the owner Charles absolutely loves dogs and there's a stylish relaxed atmosphere your dog will pick up and feel totally at home. You'll also get great walks from the door!
