About this property

Perched high above the Mawddach estuary at the foot of the rugged Cadair Idris, you will find the stone-fronted Penmaenuchaf hotel.

Inspired by the dramatic ancient landscape of Snowdonia National Park, this grand old house has its own beautiful history, and each room boasts its own unique and characterful appeal. Adventure abounds in this land of longing, rich in tales of Welsh myth and legend as fantastical as the scenery in front of it.

Guests are welcomed with warm smiles as they step into the country house, in this incredibly scenic and tranquil location, to experience the unbuttoned approach to exceptional hospitality. A true retreat for the soul, this mountain hideaway invites one to escape the everyday and enjoy.

Head Chef, Thomas Hine, and his talented kitchen brigade focus on creating menus with high-quality, delicious ingredients that are as local as possible. The restaurant, with views out across the gardens and the Snowdonia range in the distance, offers lunch and dinner daily and is a wonderful setting for a memorable dining experience, showcasing great cooking with a true emphasis on Welsh flavour.

Penmaenuchaf Hall Hotel are pleased to provide for guests visiting with dogs a comfy bed, blanket, towel and bowls for use during their stay as well as doggy waste bags, treats and for longer stays a cuddly friend to take home. Each canine guest receives their own welcome letter from Rory the hotel dog which includes information for their owners about practicalities like where to find a handy bin as well as suggestions of where locally they might enjoy some adventures.

Guests travelling with well behaved dogs are welcome to enjoy our gardens and wider extensive grounds and the local area of South Snowdonia is a haven, offering beaches and dunes, lakes, rivers and mountain trails to explore.

Dine with Your Dog

Leave your dog in the room (you can leave your pooch in its crate) or stroll into the local town of Dolgellau for more options. The Garden Room Restaurant is a most delightful setting in which to enjoy a superb meal. The beautiful surroundings are matched only by the excellent cuisine. The hotel's head chef and his team produce contemporary British food with an emphasis on flavour, local produce and simple, careful presentation. Homegrown herbs, salads and vegetables from the hotel's own garden combine with exceptional, fresh ingredients from local suppliers to create delicious, imaginative dishes. Please note dogs aren’t permitted in the restaurant but guests are welcome to dine from the Main menu or Lounge menu in the dog-friendly areas of the public spaces - the Library and Morning Room. This can be arranged for breakfast as well as lunch or dinner.

Bow wow factor

Millie, the owner's granddog, is a regular visitor – a friendly dog happy to greet doggie guests with a waggie tail.
