Built in 1752, dog-friendly Brown’s Hotel is an iconic literary address, the social hub of Laugharne, West Wales and the favourite watering hole of poet and writer Dylan Thomas, who famously left the bar’s phone number as his own. This Laugharne dog-friendly accommodation offers gorgeous rooms, a famous bar and new Penderyn Restaurant. Brown’s is a hotel of characters - the locals and staff are always up for a chat - and following in Dylan’s footsteps President Carter, Burton & Taylor, Peter O’Toole, Charles and Camilla, Mick Jagger, Pierce Brosnan, Cerys Matthews and many others have made their way up the three stone steps to the bar.

Having been renovated and refurbished to a very high standard, the hotel offers individually styled luxurious en-suite bedrooms with organic wool furnishings and mattresses. The décor and furnishings summon up nostalgic thoughts of vintage values, style and warm Welsh hospitality ensuring that your stay will be as comfortable as possible. Each of the individually styled bedrooms features 1950s themed retro-style furniture and tastefully designed colour scheme. All of the bedrooms feature organic natural Welsh wool mattresses, an LCD HD TV, Media Bar, Digital Radio with iPod docking station, tea and coffee making facilities and a hairdryer. The ensuite bathrooms feature a range of luxury Myddfai complimentary toiletries.

Fern Hill

There is a house called Fern Hill in Laugharne, but this double room is named after Dylan Thomas’ famous poem in which he recalls his childhood playing on a Carmarthenshire farm just across the headland near Llansteffan. This Standard Double room features a double roll top bath with shower, Kingsize bed, WiFi and TV. The room is at the top of the first staircase, just up from the bar, so perfect for those who want to be at the heart of the hotel.

Llareggub

If you didn’t know already, read the name backwards… Llareggub was the name of the town in Dylan Thomas’ iconic Under Milk Wood. This double room has commanding views over the street. Burgess

Laugharne Corporation, established in 1291, is the last surviving medieval corporation in the UK. It is made up of the Portreeve and a jury of 20 burgesses, who are ‘freemen’ of the town. Burgess is a spacious double room and overlooks the famous Corran bookshop on King St. This Standard Double room features a Super Kingsize bed, double roll top bath with shower, WiFii and TV. Located in the main building on the first floor.

Taf

Laugharne is situated at the mouth of the river Taf. However this single room offers a cosy haven away from the wildness of the estuary. With its exposed roof beams, this room features an ensuite shower room, WiFi, TV and a small double bed. Located in the main building on the first floor.

St Ishmael

This atmospheric double room has an impressive double height ceiling, but only a little natural light. There is a very good reason for this. It is situated in what was the ballroom of Brown’s Hotel; a space that saw parties, celebrations, dances, weddings; every kind of social gathering from the mid-18th century right up until the 1980s. This Standard Double room features a Super Kingsize bed, double roll top bath with shower, WiFi and TV. Located in the outbuilding on the ground floor.

Llansteffan

What Laugharne is to the Taf, Llansteffan is to the Towy. They are both attractive estuary towns with imposing castles that guard the rivers as they enter Carmarthen Bay. Named after Laugharne’s babbling brook, the Corran (or ‘charn’ in the Welsh name for Laugharne – Talacharn), this spacious double room is rich in character with its own entrance hall. Portreeve

Talacharn

Brown’s Hotel’s most breath-taking room is the Talacharn (the ‘ch’ sound is pronounced in the same way as in the Scottish word ‘loch’). This breath-taking double height room takes up half the roof space of the Brown’s Hotel and comprises a separate seating area, writing desk and additional sofa bed. The Suite features a Superking size bed, double roll top bath, WiFi, TV, a separate seating area, writing desk and additional sofa bed. Located in the main building on the third floor, this room has street views.

Uplands

Dylan Thomas was born in the Uplands area of Swansea, but once he visited Laugharne and Brown’s Hotel he never wanted to live anywhere else. He’d have loved this cosy room. Teifi

The river Teifi flows from the Preseli mountains down to Cardigan and is the longest river that is wholly in Wales. A lovely sanctuary away from the old Welsh hills this single room takes up part of the ceiling space of the historical Brown’s ballroom. Despite its compact size, this room is light and airy with visible roof tresses.
