You are surrounded by the stunning North York Moors National Park and the Wolds. York is only an hour away and should not be missed. This fantastic medieval city, with the minster standing proud in the centre, has something for all age groups. Nearby Dalby Forest is a tranquil haven to explore the miles of woodland trails on foot or by bike. There is also a zip wire trail for the more adventurous. The Yorkshire Coast is just a short drive away and the cottage is a great base for visiting the resorts of Scarborough, Filey and Whitby as well as the smaller villages of Robin Hood’s Bay, Staithes or the waterfall at the Hayburn Wyke cove. Just 3 miles away, Pickering is a traditional market town with a local market held every Monday which is very popular with both the locals and tourists alike. There are plenty of restaurants, pubs and cafés plus some interesting independent shops. Pickering is home to the North York Moors steam railway. Here you can catch a steam train for an amazing journey across the North York Moors National Park to the town of Whitby. Flamingo Land, a popular theme park, is close to Pickering with its exciting rides and fantastic zoo, sure to make a great day out with the children. Scarborough is on the east coast and is a very popular seaside town great for families with its large sweeping bays. There’s something for all age groups in Scarborough from the Sealife Centre, the theatres, the Alpamare waterpark and the historic Scarborough Castle. Thornlea is one of a kind, this characterful spacious property is beautifully furnished with a fun splash of colour. You are perched up on the cliff top, just a short walk down to the golden sandy beach stretching all the way to neighbouring Sandsend. At the rear of the property you have an enclosed garden, bursting with colour through the spring and summer months, with both the dining room and the sun room having glass doors opening out into this welcoming outdoor space. The dining room is a great size for enjoying social meals all together, with the well-equipped kitchen adjoining. They say the kitchen is the heart of the home and this unique kitchen is at the centre of the building, boasting its own pantry as well as opening out into the sun room, with comfortable seating where you can unwind with garden views. There is an outdoor theatre which stages concerts by some of music’s big names, and then there is the Stephen Joseph Theatre which is famous for the premieres of Alan Ayckbourn’s plays. The Alpamare waterpark is great for all ages, with its fantastic wave pool and waterslides, as well as a large heated outdoor infinity pool. Keep younger children entertained with the ’splash and play’ area. For adults there is a spa where you can relax and be pampered. Stardust is an exceptional seafront property, it is spacious and beautifully furnished throughout, ensuring you have an idyllic stay by the coast. With offroad parking on the driveway at the front of the property, steps lead you up to the front door where you have elevated views over the sea. Stepping inside the hallway leads you to the spacious modern kitchen, which is open plan with the dining area. The dining table is a great size for enjoying meals together, and with the large leather sofa in this room it’s the perfect social space where you can all plan the days ahead whilst cooking and prepping. Glass doors open out into the large lawned enclosed garden, complete with a patio where you can soak up the sun. On the ground floor you also have three bedrooms, the two at the front are both generous in size with desirable sea views. One bedroom is a twin the other is a king. The third bedroom which has a double bed at the rear of the property boasts a walk-in wardrobe as well as an en-suite shower room. Upstairs on the first floor there is the living room, with sofas and armchairs beneath the vaulted ceiling. There are two single sofa beds in this room which can be used by additional children if your own bedding is brought with you. The 1st floor bathroom has both a slipper bath and a cubicle shower, giving you the option of a refreshing shower or an indulgent soak.

Tiggywinkle Cottage sits in the heart of the picturesque village of Hawnby. Surrounded by the North York Moors National Park, this 200-year-old, detached, traditional Yorkshire cottage, which was fully refurbished and extended in 2020, is simply delightful. Tiggywinkle Cottage was named by a walker during the 1950s who took time to sit and draw the property. The villagers fell in love with the name and so it remains, along with the original pencil sketch which now hangs within the cottage.
On arrival visitors are welcomed into the open plan living area. This room oozes character with its low ceilings and stone floors, tall visitors will need to take care! There is a country kitchen and large comfortable sofas around the wood burner in the open plan living area. Ideal to snuggle up and enjoy an evening’s entertainment on the 32’’ Smart TV or simply sit and enjoy a good book and glass of wine after a long day walking or cycling in the National Park. You will find everything you need to cook your favourite holiday recipes whilst the dining area provides comfortable seating for four. A ground floor bedroom offers a zip and link option and an en-suite bathroom, both bedrooms have pocket spring mattresses and feather down duvets. For those of you who enjoy bird watching there’s the RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton Cliffs where you can view thousands of migrating seabirds from the cliff top viewing points. People travel from all over to watch the comical puffins. The cyclists amongst you can enjoy some of the routes from the Tour de Yorkshire, as well as the wonderful Dalby Forest, home to miles and miles of mountain bike tracks. With over 8,000 acres of woodland pathways there’s plenty of woodland walks to enjoy, as well as the Cleveland Way. Aysgarth Lodge provides an excellent base to enjoy a golf tour of the North East Coast or play in the historic Scarborough golf week.
Yorkshire is famous for its market towns, Pickering, Malton, Beverley and Driffield are all a short drive from Aysgarth Lodge. In the village you will find a supermarket, post office, traditional pub, bistro pub, fish and chip shop and a church 100-400 yards. There is a garden centre. 10-15 minute flat walk which has a lovely café. Supermarket and fast food outlets within a 5 minute drive, all in the same place. You should not be disappointed with your stay as there’s something for all age groups and tastes. Beach 4½ miles. Shop 250 yards, pub and restaurant 200 yards.

Situated at Staithes, near Whitby, these former World War I army bunkers are in an idyllic position close to the countryside and sea. Four of the barracks have been ingeniously and tastefully transformed to provide good quality accommodation retaining much rustic character and charm. The remaining four lodges retain their near original condition as a visual reminder of their former function. Each refurbished lodge has the added advantage of free parking, an outdoor sitting area and bike parking racks.
Situated just off the Cleveland Way, there are many fine moorland and cliff top walks. There is a golf course and driving range in Brotton, 6¾ miles away, and at Scaling Reservoir, 7¼ miles, there is sailing and fishing. There is a leisure centre 2 miles down the road and a 2-minute stroll down the cobbled street brings you to the centre of the picturesque fishing village with its small harbour nestling beneath rugged cliffs. Step back in time and walk the quaint narrow passages, as Captain James Cook himself must have done. Here in Staithes there are village shops, pubs, cafés and a restaurant, and in 2020 the village was featured on the BBC programme ’Gone Christmas Fishing’ with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. Why not travel on Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Express (the North Yorkshire Moors Railway) through ’Heartbeat’ country, or visit Whitby and its famous abbey which is 11 miles away.
