    Tranmire Cottage is beautifully furnished throughout, with an authentic country charm. Careful attention to detail means it is both very well-equipped and comfortable. It also has the most fabulous freestanding roll top bath with a rain shower over - a grand feature, and great for relaxing in after a day out.
    The cottage sleeps six in three bedrooms, with up to three dogs welcome to join you; there are many delightful walks nearby you and they will love. The owners provide route suggestions as well as walking maps and books, and a guide packed with information about the area.
    Throughout the ground floor there is underfloor heating, ensuring the large reception area can be used for drying as well as storing outdoor gear if necessary. The living room also has a large range with an open fire, great for cosying up in the winter months. This room bathed in light from the large sash window with window seat, which looks out into the lawned garden and secure paddock beyond, which is shared with the neighbouring owners. There is a dedicated seating area and BBQ within the garden, so that guests can make the most of sunny afternoons during their stay. You can collect eggs from the hens which can stay in a secure paddock or free range, depending on guest requirements.
    The quintessential country kitchen is ideal for creating home-cooked meals using these eggs or other fresh local ingredients from the many farm shops in the area. Savour time together around the dining table, planning the events for the days ahead over dinner.
    Up on the first floor you have the most incredible master bedroom featuring that bath, as well as a king-size bed and a separate ensuite room with a toilet and washbasin. There is then also a double bedroom as well as a twin bedroom, both with wardrobes and drawers and served by a family bathroom which has a bath with shower over. All rooms have radiators or heated towel rails. Each bedroom is beautifully themed and named after different nearby dales: Rosedale – just to the North, the heart of the moors, Farndale – renowned for the blankets of daffodils that stretch out along the river through the spring, and Ryedale – which makes up the Vale of Pickering to the south.
    Within Lastingham there is a historic church, several holy wells, and a village hall where community events, all open to visitors, are held. The Blacksmith’s Arms is extremely popular with locals and travellers alike for the quality and value of their food. Dogs are welcome in their large beer garden which has shelters and heaters, and a wood-fired pizza oven.
    Lastingham is two miles from Hutton-le-Hole, creating a popular circular walk. That picturesque village has a deli/bakery, pub, teashops, craft workshops and the Ryedale Folk Museum. Nearby are the market towns of Helmsley, Kirkbymoorside and Pickering - all with attractive market squares, independent shops and quaint tea rooms. Malton, Yorkshire’s Food Capital, is only half an hour away, with regular markets and festivals.
    The heritage steam railway from Pickering passes through Goathland and Grosmont on its way to Whitby – all great for a stop. English Heritage properties nearby include the castles at Pickering and Helmsley, the superb Rievaulx Abbey and Wheeldale Roman Road. Castle Howard, Eden Camp, the National Centre for Birds of Prey, and the National Trust’s Nunnington Hall are also popular attractions within easy reach.
    About 45 minutes away you have the incredible Yorkshire Coastline to discover, with picturesque villages and towns, sandy beaches and hidden coves to explore.
