    The village amenities are all within a short walking distance of the house, with a well-stocked shop, popular cafe and three pubs all providing local ales and hearty meals using locally sourced produce. A further 10-minute walk takes you to the Yorkshire Dales Brewery which has a shop and, in the summer, a beer garden at weekends.
    The Yorkshire Dales offer spectacular scenery and an abundance of walks of all ability levels to explore. From the house itself there are beautiful walks along the banks of the nearby River Ure and the Askrigg Waterfalls Walk, which takes in both Whitfield Force and Mill Gill Force. For the more adventurous, longer walks and climbs in Wensleydale and Swaledale are within easy reach. The Yorkshire Three Peaks can be accessed from Horton-in-Ribblesdale, 40-minute drive away. For more restful days, there is so much to see and do within an easy distance. Picturesque Aysgarth Falls and Castle Bolton are nearby, and the market towns of Leyburn and Hawes are a short drive away. The Forbidden Corner in Middleham, a quirky venue with its labyrinth of caves, folly and underground caverns, is 13 miles away, and is hugely popular with families.     Nearby are the market towns of Hawes and Leyburn with their many shops, pubs, restaurants and craft workshops, where craftsmen display their skills and sell handmade products. For groceries, Leyburn is 4 miles away and has convenience stores as well as an award-winning delicatessen and winery. Fresh eggs are available in the village and newspapers can be provided at the nearby farm. All the big supermarkets regularly deliver to the village.
    Historical castles and ruins are numerous with Bolton Castle almost on the doorstep, and Middleham Castle a few miles away.
