Brooke’s Cottage has an enviable position within the South Downs National Park with gorgeous views over the countryside.
The cottage has an open plan living area with double aspect views of the rolling hills, woodland, and garden. There is a leather sofa to relax on in the evenings and there is also a fitted kitchen area. The double bedroom is light and airy with lovely views and has compact en-suite facilities. The main entrance patio doors lead from the living area with steps down to the cottage’s private enclosed garden which has comfortable outside furniture to sit and enjoy the view. Or should you require some well-earned refreshment, the village pub is less than 100 yards away!
Herstmonceux Castle is a short drive away and offers 300 acres of woodland formal gardens and of course the 15th-century moated castle. The building at the time was the largest private home in England and since it adopted the French fashion of building in brick, the castle of Herstmonceux was unique. It is well worth a visit to learn a little about the history of the castle and relax before taking a gentle stroll around the formal gardens. Other attractions close by for your enjoyment include Glyndbourne with internationally renowned concerts and plays performed throughout the year, and Firle Place which is an outstanding privately owned country house in Sussex that dates from the time of Henry VIII. The house gardens and notable collection of works of art and porcelain are of national importance and will ensure a day to remember. Set below the imposing Blackdown, the highest point in the South Downs, this holiday home is a comfortable base for exploring the wonderful surroundings and numerous local attractions. Oak Grove is a modern, attached chalet home set in the lovely village of Fernhurst which is just beneath Blackdown. The cottage itself has all modern comforts whilst offering the rural location that would be ideal for walkers or nature lovers.

On the ground floor you will find a bright and airy dining area with seating overlooking the front garden area and this then leads to the fully equipped kitchen which has all modern conveniences. The snug lounge area is equipped with entertainment to suit all ages including access to Freeview TV, Netflix and Amazon. The views over to the surrounding countryside from the first floor are delightful. The rear garden is an oasis of tranquillity, surrounded by mature oak trees which offer privacy and seclusion. There is a garden building housing a full size table tennis table which is available throughout the summer months for guests to enjoy.

Fernhurst is a West Sussex village lying close to the borders of Surrey and Hampshire. Haslemere, a mere 3 miles from Oak Grove, is a quaint and charming market town steeped in history, and has a host of attractions for visitors to satisfy all interests. Experience first-hand the beautiful parks, gardens and spectacular historic houses, or immerse yourself in culture at the many places of historical interest. Drive 10 minutes and you will be in Midhurst, here you will find the grand Tudor ruins of Cowdray House, one of England’s most important early Tudor houses.

A little further and you will reach the historic town of Petworth, which is best known as the location of the stately home Petworth House completed in 1696. The House and its grounds are now owned and maintained by the National Trust, and the magnificent country house contains an internationally renowned art collections. With Goodwood less than half an hour’s drive from Oak Grove you are perfectly placed to visit Goodwood House. You can also take the opportunity to attend one of the many events at the Goodwood Motoring circuit such as the Festival of Speed or the Revival meeting.

In a tranquil countryside setting, The Art Barn is a wonderful old barn that has been completely converted to sleep four guests in two bedrooms. The master bedroom has a queensize bed with an en-suite bathroom with roll-top bath and separate shower cubicle. The second bedroom offers twin beds, and the property also benefits from a second shower room. For those that need to catch up on emails, desk space is available. French doors lead out to a private lawned garden with patio area with an outdoor table and benches for six, a couple of armchairs and a BBQ. You can enjoy sitting outside in complete privacy here, with it being screened by trees from the owner’s main house and private garden.
The Art Barn, formally used by the owner as her art studio is a very inspiring space, so if you have a creative flare don’t forget to bring your sketch pad as there is lots to inspire you. The owners have a cat and friendly dog, but please be aware the property is not suitable for anyone with an allergy to horses.
This rural setting is easily accessible and perfect for exploring the many things this area has to offer. The Jane Austen House Museum is only a 15-minute drive away in the picturesque village of Chawton with tea rooms and pub. A perfect location for walkers and cyclists with direct gate access onto the bridle path leading to Bramshott and Ludshott Commons. There is so much on offer in this beautiful part of the south of England with the Goodwood Estate world known for its racing, golfing and horse racing and home to the famous Festival of Speed and Revival, less than a 40-minute drive away. Cowdray Estate, for polo, is just 30-minute drive and it is only 20 minutes to Trotton Estates Vineyard where you can enjoy a tour, picnic or even a wine tasting event. Within easy reach are beaches at Hayling Island, West Wittering and Bognor Regis, the picturesque sailing village of Bosham, Arundel with its historic castle and antique shops and the historic cathedral city of Chichester with its festival theatre and array of shops.

The Coop has close access to an extensive network of footpaths, leading to the unspoilt part of the low weald, a haven for birds and wildlife. The quaint village of Petworth is 5 miles away, with its plentiful antique shops, beautiful stately home and Capability Brown designed gardens and parkland, where many functions and events can be enjoyed during the summer months.
The charming small town of Midhurst, famous for polo at Cowdray Park is also a short drive, as are Billingshurst, Haslemere and Guildford. Goodwood, with its motor racing and horse racing, Fontwell races, West Dean Gardens, Parham House, The Weald, Downland Open Air Museum and the South Downs are all within easy driving distance, as is the cathedral city of Chichester with its extensive shopping and tea rooms, festival theatre and harbour tours.
Alternatively, the town of Arundel with its famous castle and cathedral, plus the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust are both well worth a visit. The Witterings and other beaches are a half-hour’s drive and numerous golf courses are within easy reach. There is a shop, pub and restaurant within ¼ mile from the property.

This fantastic market town is located amongst some of the most beautiful rural countryside and is easily reached from London by car or by train. Arundel train station, connecting to London Victoria and Bognor Regis, is less than a mile away from the cottage. Goodwood Racecourse and Motor Circuit, which are the homes of the infamous Goodwood Festival of Speed, Goodwood Revival and Glorious Goodwood, is located just over 10 miles from the property and well worth a visit. There are also plenty of outdoor activities nearby to keep you entertained, from horse riding across the road, canoeing on the River Arun, golfing and clay pigeon shooting, to lovely walks and cycling trails. Take a trip to the stunning Sussex coast, which is within easy reach, as is the beautiful South Downs National Park. This delightful detached barn conversion enjoys a peaceful location overlooking fields and paddocks and has its own hot tub! What better way to relax after a day of walking along the South Downs or exploring the various sightseeing attractions, than to sit back in the warm bubbles and savour the lovely view. There is an enclosed patio garden with outside furniture, ideal for eating al fresco on warm balmy evenings. The Barn is situated adjacent to the owner’s home and has been carefully converted to allow for features such as a stable door, wooden beams and wood burner. The owners ensure guests comfort and have added many extras and homely touches. The first floor bedrooms have sloping ceilings and there is plenty of wardrobe space with additional storage on the landing.

There is so much to do in the area. Only 15 minutes’ drive away is historic Arundel with its magnificent castle, antique and book shops, eateries, cathedral, open air pool, wild fowl and wetlands. Slightly further is Chichester with Festival Theatre, boat tours, extensive shopping, Goodwood (Glorious Goodwood, Festival of Speed and Revival for motor racing) and Fontwell for a day at the races. Other race courses within easy reach include Brighton and Lingfield. Beaches within a 30 minute-drive include West Wittering, Worthing and the ever popular cosmopolitan city of Brighton, with its pier, Regency Royal Pavilion, theatres and art galleries.

There are many stately homes and gardens to discover too, some of which are National Trust, including Petworth House, Goodwood House and Gardens, Nymans, Glyndebourne, Sheffield Park and Borde Hill. Also within easy driving distance is Cowdray for polo. For bird lovers and wildlife, visit nearby RSPB Pulborough. There are various golf clubs all within easy reach, and horse riding too. Steyning Kilns is located on the site of five old lime kilns dating back to the early 1800s. It is a lovely detached property with the added benefit of air conditioning, located on the side of the South Downs, able to comfortably accommodate up to six guests. It provides a fantastic secluded location for couples, families, or small groups of cyclists or walkers to stay, when looking to explore the wider Sussex area. Outside there is a tap for bike and boot washing and an eating area with table and chairs for six, barbecue and fire pit (with free logs) for those cooler evenings. There is a large paddock area for recreation and some outdoor play equipment available for the children.

Steyning is a small, picturesque town, originally one of the most important places in the county during the middle ages, with its large and prosperous port. Now, it resides about 5 miles from the coast, up the River Adur from Shoreham-by-Sea. The centre of the village still has a large number of historic buildings, including many from the medieval and Tudor period.

Today you’ll find independent shops, an assortment of tea rooms and restaurants, pubs, a well-stocked supermarket and a local butcher all on the high street. The award winning Sussex Produce Company stocks high quality produce and some excellent ready meals, where you can shop for food seven days a week and until late in the evening. Also well worth a visit is the Steyning Bookshop and Cobblestone Walk - a unique shopping arcade, all based around a 16th-century tea house.

The property is ideally positioned on the side of the South Downs, bordering onto the National Park boundary, but only ½ a mile from the South Downs Way path, the Downslink Trail and Steyning High Street. It offers many miles of bridle and cycle paths, and footpaths to explore, with pretty rural villages and traditional country pubs to discover along its routes. You can visit the nearby Steyning Bowl, Chanctonbury Ring, with its stunning views, and the Iron Age hill fort at Cissbury Ring.

The cosmopolitan city of Brighton on the south coast lies roughly 12 miles south east, where you can take a tour around the Regency terraces, the Royal Pavilion, the trendy Lanes district and book your ticket for the British Airways i360 observation tower. The town of Worthing, with 2019’s ‘Pier of the Year’ is only 7 miles away.

Other must-see places within Sussex include Arundel with its famous castle, RSPB Pulborough, The Bluebell Steam Railway, Ashdown Forest or slightly further afield to the west, you’ll find the historic Chichester Cathedral and Goodwood and Fontwell races.

Outdoor pursuits are well catered for in the county, including horse riding on the Downs, and golf enthusiasts will find a variety of courses available locally, and hang gliding enthusiasts can visit The Flyers at nearby Devil`s Dyke on The Downs, 7 miles away. Downlands Farm is nestled in the heart of the beautiful Hampshire countryside with wonderful views across the peaceful valley. This rural haven is only 10 minutes from Petersfield, with fantastic road and rail connections for London and Portsmouth. These two holiday cottages Edward’s Cottage (ref UKC1818) and Louisa’s Cottage (ref UK11596) are set on a small working farm and just off a green-lane leading to miles of footpaths, bridleways and on and off-road cycling within the South Downs National Park. The cottages offer light and airy open plan living accommodation, and have ground floor bedrooms and a special ‘hideaway’ bedroom/playroom to accommodate children.
The barns have been converted from original agricultural buildings and have been sympathetically designed to blend with the surrounding countryside, while offering comfortable accommodation. For biking enthusiast there is a shared bike shed for bike storage and by arrangement, guests are welcome to bring their horses and make use of the Loddon stables. There are three local pubs within the vicinity, all within a half hour stroll or a 3-minute car journey away. The bustling market town of Petersfield is a 10-minute drive, and has a range of shops and restaurants, and along with the two local village shops; these provide all you need for stocking up on essential items. The cathedral cities of Chichester, Guildford, Portsmouth and Winchester are all 45 minutes away, and offer a range of shops and entertainment. The beautiful beach at West Wittering is an hour’s drive away, and this lovely location is ideal to visit, whatever the time of year, and is perfect for all ages. During low season (October to April), you can ride your horse at any time on the beach at West Wittering, and during the summer months you can ride before 9am and after 6pm.
Hayling Island has a children’s fun fair and a shingle beach, and is within half an hour from Downlands Farm. The cottages enjoy direct access to miles of scenic walking and cycling routes through the beautiful countryside and pretty villages such West Meon, where you can enjoy lunch at one of the pubs serving food, and where Thomas Lord rests, founder of Lords cricket. The market town of Petersfield has a range of restaurants and shops, and if you fancy a day trip to London, the local train service takes approximately one hour. There are several attractions in the area that are worth a visit, including Portsmouth with the Spinnaker Tower, HMS Warrior and Nelson’s HMS Victory, along with the historic Winchester Cathedral, King Arthurs Round Table, and Southampton with its extensive maritime history. For walking and riding the vast heathland of The New Forest National Park is ideal. For a cultural day out, try historic Chichester with its cathedral and festival theatre, and not forgetting the Watercress Steam Train, Jane Austen’s house, Gilbert White’s house, Marwell Zoo, Birdworld and the Queen Elizabeth Country Park which is the other side of the valley. Fairwind is a detached bungalow perched at the top of the cliffs, with a covered outdoor swimming pool in the rear garden. Uninterrupted sea views of the English Channel can be enjoyed from the garden or the comfort of the living room. The sleepy seaside town of Peacehaven offers stunning clifftop walks or a beach walk accessed via a ramp a couple of hundred yards from Fairwind. The Greenwich Meridian dividing east and west, runs through the town and there is a marker on the cliff top close to Fairwind where the 0 degree longitude line travels from the cliffs and out to sea. 6 miles to the east is buzzing Brighton where you can visit The Royal Pavilion, explore The Lanes or view the coastline from the British Airways i360 tower, named the most slender tower by the Guinness World Records in 2016. Enjoy a stroll along the pier or visit the oldest operating aquarium in the world with its original Victorian architecture. The port of Newhaven offers the opportunity to take a day trip to France or from the marina, a boat trip to explore the Seven Sisters Heritage Coast.
