The Grade II* listed stable conversion (PFFH) is part of the only longhouse in Wiltshire and dating back to the 13th century, is the oldest house in the village. Beautifully refurbished to offer all modern conveniences, yet retains charm and character. Sympathetically converted, the detached, single-storey barn (PHHF) offers light and airy, contemporary accommodation. Colerne has a good selection of shops and pubs but only a short bus journey, 7 miles, will take you into Bath and Chippenham. Exmoor National Park and the Quantock Hills are well worth a visit, as well as a trip to the south to explore the Jurassic Coast between Seaton and Bridport, taking in Lyme Regis. Inland, there is Clarkes Village for some retail therapy, Glastonbury Tor, Somerset Levels, Cheddar Gorge and the spa city of Bath. After spending the day exploring many attractions, return to this delightful property and snuggle up in front of the woodburner, set in a lovely inglenook with bread oven. Beach 20 miles. Welcome to Mudhorse Cottage, a beautiful one bedroomed cottage less than a minute’s walk to the beach and the South West coastal path. Mudhorse Cottage has an interesting history, previously being the last Mudhorse Fisherman’s Cottage in the UK, with subtle nods to this reflected throughout including many books detailing the unique thousand-year-old traditional fishing. Completely refurbished in 2022 to a high standard, you enter the porch which has a fabulous map which the owners have thoughtfully plotted out places of interest and great local spots to eat out.
From here you head into the spacious open plan living/dining/kitchen area, the latter being very well equipped. The comfortable dining area opens onto the lounge which has a gorgeous wood burner for winter months. A further snug with sofa bed makes a wonderful reading room or chill space with smart TV and a stunning stained-glass window depicting the last Mud-horse Fisherman who lived in the property. The lovely bedroom has a super king-size bed and plenty of storage, and a fabulous bathroom with roll top bath and shower. Outside to the front is a patio seating area with a lovely pond and water feature, while to the rear, a lawned garden with BBQ and sun loungers, the perfect space to lay back, relax and enjoy the quiet after a day exploring.
Step outside the property and within 50 yards you are at Stolford Sea front and common land, perfect for dogs and humans to stretch their legs and soak in the sea air along the pebble and sandy beach. The coastal path here leads to Steart Marshes (WWT) a thriving nature reserve a little further on there is the village of Combwich where you can enjoy a pub lunch or in the opposite direction the path takes you to Kilve a place of special scientific interest. For a more traditional seaside atmosphere, head East to Burnham on Sea or Weston Super Mare with the latter having the great pier packed with amusements as well as lots of shops and restaurants to choose from. To the West a short drive takes you to Watchet a pretty harbour town, Dunster with its Castle and Minehead and North Devon with the beautiful Exmoor National Park. Stolford is nestled only a few miles from The Quantock Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Bridgwater and Taunton are within easy reach with its many shops, bars, and restaurants and its train station which has direct links to Bristol, Cardiff and south to Penzance, so you will be spoilt for choice for days out!

Roosters Retreat is a first-floor apartment set within an old Grade II Listed cottage that is situated within 1 mile of the seafront in this lovely seaside town and offers comfortable, spacious and contemporary accommodation for up to four guests who are looking for the perfect base from which to discover this beautiful part of the country. Fully updated, it is well suited for a small family or couples and is within easy reach of shops, restaurants and the beach. The accommodation comprises a spacious open plan lounge/kitchen/diner with a high arched ceiling with a smart TV and comfortable furniture. The kitchen area has an electric oven and hob, a dishwasher and a full size fridge/freezer. Directly outside the main living area is a small sitting-out area. There are two bedrooms; a king-size and a twin and a lovely modern shower room parking is available directly outside the apartment for one car.
Minehead is a lovely seaside town that sits on the edge of Exmoor National Park. If walking is your passion, there is no better place to be. Not only do you have Exmoor on the doorstep, with its magnificent views, designated ‘dark skies’ for gorgeous stargazing, wildlife and cosy pubs; but the town is also the starting point of the Southwest Coast Path, the longest countryside trail in the south-west. It’s also the terminus for West Somerset Railway, the longest heritage railway in Britain. The town offers a wide range of attractions, including the beach, promenade, harbour, beautiful gardens and a colourful tree-lined avenue with an array of shops and amenities. Dominated by the wooded slopes of North Hill, the whole area is renowned for its outstanding natural beauty and is also well situated to discover the beauty of North Devon with stunning Lynton and Lynmouth en route.

Set right opposite the beach in the heart of the seaside town of Minehead we have Seagate Cottage, built in the 17th century this delightful topsy turvy thatched cottage has views over the bay from the lounge and first floor bedroom. On the ground floor you will find the well equipped kitchen diner with electric cooker, fridge freezer and ample dining space, the twin bedroom is on this floor as well as the bathroom which has bath with shower over, heated towel rail and the washer/dryer. Up the stairs to the first floor you will find the living room with TV, DVD player, DAB radio and CD player, open fire and sea views, the large double bedroom also has sea views and there is a separate toilet as well.
Pets are more than welcome here and are treated like family with their own dog bowls and throws for them to make their stay extra comfy, there is a green area across the road and the beach opposite allows dogs from September to May plus lots of other year round dog friendly beaches nearby.
The traditional seaside resort of Minehead has a great mix of small independent stores as well as larger chain stores plus plenty of pubs, restaurants, cafés and tea rooms all within a short walking distance from Seagate Cottage. For a great day out hop onto the West Somerset Steam Railway just around the corner and ride the rails through Somerset villages. Wonderful walks surround you, head up North Hill or over to Alcombe, Exmoor has miles and miles of walks as well suitable for all abilities! The wonderful medieval village of Dunster with its fabulous castle, now owned by the national trust is just a couple of miles away. A short drive brings you to the Victorian villages of Lynmouth and Lynton, famous for the Watersmeet Gorge, National Trust, Valley of the Rocks and the funicular cliff railway while Porlock and Porlock Weir hold plenty of charm and interest to those who visit the area.
