Bring your bucket and spade as the glorious sandy beach at Morfa Dyffryn is just a mile down the road and offers superb views over to the Rhinog Mountains. For the more adventurous, Zip World and Bounce Below at Blaenau Ffestiniog are a thrill seekers delight, whilst the famous Ffestiniog Railway and mighty Harlech Castle are also well worth a visit. Barmouth is situated on the Mawddach Estuary and boasts lovely sandy beaches making this ideal for relaxing walks along the coast, cycling along the Mawddach Trail or discovering many sights and attractions. Castles can be found all over the area at Bala, Caenarfon and Harlech. If you like to get out in the fresh air, this is great walking country, why not tackle the peak of Cadair Idris? This stylish two-storey semi-detached converted barn is in Dyffryn Ardudwy near Barmouth. Only 2-minutes drive from the beach, it is beautifully appointed and tastefully decorated offering the perfect retreat for couples looking to explore this beautiful part of North Wales. Relax on the sumptuous L-shaped leather sofa facing onto a Freeview TV with windows facing out towards the flowerbeds and the fields beyond. Ymwlch Barns are a charming complex of barn conversions situated in a quiet hamlet offering beautiful mountain views and country walks. The Dutch barns (UK12872 and UK12873) are superb, semi-detached barn conversions each offering modern open plan living with a luxurious touch and lovely private hot tubs in enclosed courtyards (towels not provided). They each have a kingsize bedroom and a twin room, making them ideal for small families or couples. Kris Kin (ref OXU) is a charming detached barn conversion with oak beams, wooden floor, well-equipped kitchen and an en-suite bathroom. This property also has its own hot tub.

The property is set in a rural location yet only just over 2 miles is Betws-y-Coed known as the ‘gateway to the Snowdonia National Park’, a popular destination for all age groups. It’s a bustling spot with many highly rated eateries to enjoy, friendly pubs, some fabulous shops selling local items, and various outdoor pursuit shops, the golf club (which welcomes visitors) is also in central Betws-y-Coed. There are some very scenic walks to explore, along rivers, waterfalls, Llyn (lake) Elsi sits above the village and is well worth the hike up.
Just down the valley from Betws-y-Coed is the famous Marin Bike Trails, with colour coded routes suitable for all abilities. You’ll find a bike hire shop in Betws-y-Coed and at the nearby market town of Llanrwst; here you will also find a larger grocery store. Just up the road from the Marin bike trails is Llyn Geirionydd (Geirionydd Lake) this is a wonderful spot for a day out where you can use the lake to take a dip or use your paddle boards and kayaks; there are picnic benches available, parking and toilets.
Tree Top Adventures are nearby where you will find six adventures to choose from, some of which are tree hoping, a forest coaster and skyride, check out their website and be sure to book to avoid disappointment. About 20 minutes’ drive from the cottage is Llechwedd Slate Caverns at Blaenau Ffestiniog, another great day out for the kids and adults alike, with further activities for all interests such as deep mine tours, underground golf, ziplines and more.
Just down the coast less than 30 minutes’ drive is the pretty harbour town of Conwy, a wonderful vibrant town full of history and interesting places to visit such as Conwy Castle, the smallest house in Great Britain, Plas Mawr, independent shops, restaurants, wine bars and traditional pubs. Walk the castle walls, catch a boat from the harbour, go crabbing at the marina, or follow the picturesque coastal path to Morfa Conwy, a beautiful sandy and dog-friendly beach.

Trefriw has a vibrant heart, so expect a friendly welcome at the post office/shop, the award-winning butchers, the fantastic working woollen mill, in the two pubs, and in the brasserie and local café. Trefriw is blessed with two of the most spectacular lakes (Geirionydd and Crafnant). Both lakes lie in the most stunning surroundings and offer different facilities. Geirionydd offers watersports for everyone (paddle and powerboating) whilst Crafnant is a much more peaceful environment. The community lead project Trefriw Trails has 8 waymarked trails which are suited to all ages and abilities for walking and cycling.

Take a trip on a steam train on the narrow-gauge railway along the lake shore between Bala and Llanuwchllyn, have a day at the beach over on the coast at Barmouth, or try some Welsh foodie delights at the award-winning Rhug Estate Organic Farm Shop at Corwen. Further afield in Blaenau Ffestiniog is the incredible Bounce Below where the whole family can try bouncing on trampoline nets deep underground in an old slate cavern, and Zip World, the largest zip wire zone in the world where you can fly high over the quarries whilst enjoying the spectacular view.
You may wish to visit the local Castles includinf Harlech, Cardochan and Dolwyddelan, or Roman fort at Caer Gai. The Beautiful Caerau Ichaf Gardens are very close to Bala and the famous Erddig Gardens is only a short drive away. You could also take a trip on the steam railway at Fairbourne Miniature Railway, or Festiniog originally The Gravity Railway and Snowdon Mountain Railway. One of the most popular tourist attractions in North Wales is Portmeirion, the Italianate village is also worth a visit. Abandoned mines can be found nearby in Carros, Llechwedd Slate Caverns in Blaenau Ffestiniog or Sygun Copper Mind in Beddgelert.

In a unique rural location, accessed by its own private track across rolling green fields, this renovated, detached, former farmhouse was once part of the nearby Glynllifon country estate. Set in quiet, tranquil countryside surrounded by rolling green, tree-studded farmland, it enjoys fabulous views to the rear of the Snowdonia Mountains, and to the front there are far reaching views across to Anglesey and the Lleyn Peninsula. In fact, on a clear day you can see the ferries leaving the port of Holyhead on their journey across the Irish sea to Dublin!
This really is a superb spot for exploring this amazing part of North Wales, where you can enjoy both spectacular mountain scenery and the most amazing beaches, along with a host of family attractions. It really does make a fantastic base from which to explore the Snowdonia National Park whatever time of year, with its cosy wood burner and wonderful hot tub.
The many attractions of this area include a narrow gauge steam railway, which winds its way from historic Caernarfon into the heart of the Snowdonia Mountains, and a small airfield for pleasure flights over the area.
