The larger cottage, Goose Cottage is a charming barn conversion and boast lovely views of the surrounding rural landscape. With spacious open plan living space, it is ideal for enjoyable gatherings of families or friends. Barn Cottage offers a first floor living room, complete with doors which open onto a small decked balcony where guests can admire the magnificent views across rolling fields and out to the sea. Both properties enjoy shared access to the range of facilities found on-site, including a tennis court and a children’s outdoor play area with slides, swings and a climbing wall. Why not take a dip in the heated outdoor swimming pool, or challenge friends and family to the variety of games found in the small indoor games barn including table tennis, air hockey and a small pool table. Widemouth Bay is an extremely popular holiday destination and is world famous for surfing. It has far reaching, exceptional sandy beaches, and provides miles of coastal paths for enthusiastic walkers. The well loved tourist town of Bude is just 3 miles further up the coast. The town offers an indoor swimming pool, shops, restaurants, horse riding, a golf course and tenpin bowling. For the keen walker there are many opportunities both along the south west coastal path route, which runs the entire coastline of Cornwall and offers stunning cliff walks, and on nearby Bodmin Moor. Most major villages, towns and attractions are within an hour’s drive; and because Bude sits on the county border, visitors can explore the delights of both Devon and Cornwall at their leisure. Look past the eight main beaches and many smaller hidden coves and you will soon see there really is something for everyone. Blakeney Quay and Morston Harbour located further along the north Norfolk coast offer seal watching boat trips and pubs and restaurants serving superb locally caught seafood.

The beautiful North York Moors are a delight to explore either on foot or by car, or alternatively, the steam railway runs along stunning scenery through many unspoilt villages including Goathland (Aidensfield in the television series ’Heartbeat’). The coast is easily accessible, 45 minutes away, and the popular seaside resorts of Scarborough and Whitby are delights not to be missed. The quaint cobbled streets of Robin Hood’s Bay, once a favourite haunt with smugglers, will keep children and adults entertained for hours with its shoreline full of strange and colourful pebbles. Castle Howard is within easy driving distance, and Flamingo Land (a popular theme park and zoo) is well worth the visit. The market town of Helmsley is just 6 miles away and has shops and inns as well as pretty walled gardens.

Many National Trust and English Heritage properties can be found within a 15-mile radius, including Nunnington Hall, Byland Abbey and Duncomb Park, to name but a few. The ancient city of York is but a 45-minute drive. Excellent walking can be found from the doorstep. Tucked away in a peaceful and secluded village setting, these five comfortably furnished holiday cottages are set in an idyllic location, only 5 miles from the spectacular Bamburgh Castle and one of the longest sandy beaches in England, and within a few minutes’ drive of Seahouses, where regular boat trips depart for the Farne Islands. Between the Cheviots and the sea, there is easy touring through the beautiful countryside with its numerous castles, stately homes and NT properties. Furnished to a high standard, and close to the owners’ home, Fordson offers single-storey accommodation and Ferguson is a detached two-storey cottage. The Mill House stands as a detached converted barn, with Waren View and The Granary Cottage forming an adjoining pair. This is an ideal choice for family holidays, with use of a very pleasant lawned area by a stream. There is also shared use of the owners’ hard tennis court nearby.

Warenford Village serves as an excellent base from which to discover Northumberland and the Scottish border country. Just 4 miles distant lies Budle Bay, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as an SSSI, with the ancient walled town of Berwick-upon-Tweed (15 miles) and the Duchess of Northumberland’s ornamental gardens a short drive away. Created to rival the best in Europe, the gardens are contemporary in design and include waterfalls and cascading plumes set within landscaped grounds with themed planted areas. Also sure to delight both young and old alike is a visit to neighbouring Alnwick Castle, which served as the location for the Harry Potter films. Home of the Percy family, it stands as the second largest inhabited castle in England after Windsor Castle, with some of its rooms open to the public and displaying a wealth of decorative and fine art.

Within easy reach, too, is Holy Island – renowned for its medieval religious heritage, priory and picturesque castle – and also known by its Anglo-Saxon name of Lindisfarne. Accessed by a paved causeway at low tide, the island is popular with bird-watchers and nature lovers, with the north-western portion of the island being maintained as a nature reserve, where terns, plovers and seals can be observed. Whilst on the island, a trip to The Museum of Island Life will reveal former living and working conditions there, and St Aidan’s Winery tempts visitors with its sweet concoction of local Lindisfarne Mead.
There are quiet country lanes for cycling and several excellent golf courses nearby, as well as a selection of shops in Belford (3 miles) and good inns and restaurants in which to enjoy a family meal locally – the nearest pub with restaurant being just 30 yards.
