Within 30 minutes’ drive you can be at Coniston Water, the site of the famous Donald Campbell water speed world record. A short 10 minutes’ drive away is the market town of Broughton-in-Furness. Broughton has excellent amenities including a selection of local shops, a tourist information centre and petrol station. In and around Broughton you will also find some of the excellent pubs, including several award winners, many offering good quality food alongside their real ales and roaring fires, you will be spoilt for choice as to where to dine out.
For a family day out there is plenty to offer such as South Lakes Safari Zoo at nearby Dalton, Muncaster Castle with its owl sanctuary, Eskdale Miniature Railway, the Lakes Aquarium and boat trips on Coniston Water and Lake Windermere. You’ll never be short of something to do.

This stretch of the Northumberland coast is dotted with harbour villages and castle ruins. The most famous of the nearby landmarks is the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, which draws visitors from around the world. Further north, the historic town of Berwick-Upon-Tweed is known as ‘the last town in England’ because of its strategic border position. Alnwick is a short journey southward, famed for its castle and its rich heritage. Delfryn is a delightful 19th century, link-detached cottage situated in the small ancient village of Llanarth. The cottage is located just off the A487 coastal road which runs between Aberystwyth and Cardigan, within 3 miles of the pretty seaside resort of New Quay and 3 miles from the colourful Georgian harbour town of Aberaeron; both of which have a good selection of shops, cafés and restaurants.
The owners of Delfryn have painstakingly restored the cottage to offer contemporary and comfortable holiday accommodation whilst retaining original features. The property layout is ideally suited to a family or friends holidaying together. The lovely living room has a feature stone wall and fireplace with a gas wood-burning stove for cosy nights in. The living room leads directly to the contemporary and spacious kitchen and dining area which in turn has French doors bringing you out into the terrace and garden. Also leading off the living room is a separate snug with a further TV and a sofa bed for two people, if required. The seaside resort of New Quay clings to the rocks above Cardigan Bay and has three great sandy beaches (two are dog friendly all year round) and two harbours from where you can spot an array of wildlife, most famously the dolphins that visit the harbour almost daily. Why not take a boat trip to get up close and personal or buy an ice cream or fish and chips and sit on the harbour wall and wait for them to appear! Lovers of the outdoors may also like to try sailing, surfing, windsurfing, sea kayaking or canoeing from the harbour beach. The resorts of Llangrannog, Aberaeron and Aberporth are also within easy reach of Llanarth and each are great starting points for walking the Cardigan Bay Coastal Path – there’s 60 miles of it to enjoy and the beaches and coastline are some of the best in Wales. A 35-minute drive will bring you to the resort of Aberystwyth, where you will find the pier and promenade as well as the electric cliff railway to the summit of Constitution Hill. Have a coffee up there and enjoy the spectacular views across the bay. You can also take the steam train from Aberyswtyth to Devil’s Bridge and waterfalls, or why not drive a bit further on to the Silver Mountain Experience at Llywernog, a fantastic day out to explore the history of the 18th century silver mine. To enter Dell Cottage, you first have to walk through the wonderful garden, which has been created with loving care by the owners. This wonderful, cosy property, with it’s arch windows and quirky features, has been thoughtfully furnished and boasts a large conservatory overlooking the beautiful garden, and it’s just 100 yards away from the local beach. With some retaining features dating back to the early 1300’s, Dell Cottage was once the village school, but is now a hidden treasure right in the heart of the picturesque coastal village of Mundesley. Although just a quaint village, Mundesley has many of the facilities of a small town, and with the beach literally on your doorstep, you may be tempted to park up and stay put.
Those who do wish to venture further afield will find a string of pretty towns and villages lining the coast, with picturesque quays, marshes, sand/shingle beaches and sand dunes. The town of Wroxham is also close by, and is known as the gateway to the Norfolk Broads. With great walks, cycling routes, National Trust properties, stately homes and wildlife sites galore, you will soon see why this area remains such a popular destination for families and couples alike. This delightful holiday cottage with fantastic views of Snowdonia is in a quiet corner of Anglesey. It’s close to picturesque Penmon Point from which there are super views of Puffin Island. From the cottage it is just a short distance to the Isle of Anglesey coastal footpath and the beach offers great sea fishing opportunities. Guests have access to a ½-acre paddock, which is great for exercising dogs. The sandy beach at Llanddona is three miles away as is the town of Beaumaris with its castle and pier. Ruby Farm Cottage nestles behind the main farmhouse and is a stunning traditional granite Cornish Cottage, surprisingly spacious inside with plenty of character features including exposed beams and a stone fireplace (not currently working). Outside there is a terraced patio, complete with table, chairs and a barbecue, a hidden garden can be discovered up some granite steps which is a delightful spot to soak up the evening sunlight while enjoying a glass of wine. To the front of the main farmhouse is a communal area that is shared with the other two cottages at Ruby Farm, Kernyk cottage and Dingley cottage. There are various outdoor games that the family can enjoy & seats to relax on.
Porkellis is a superb place to stay with stunning access to the bustling port of Falmouth, with it’s vibrant atmosphere, Helford River, one of the most beautiful tidal creeks in the country made famous by Daphne Du Mauriers’ classic novel Frenchman’s Creek, and onwards to the untamed beauty and splendour of the Lizard peninsula.
