This holiday cottage is spacious, yet intimate, and commands beautiful views of the countryside surrounding the peaceful village of Sheldon, only 3 miles from the market town of Bakewell. The oldest part of the cottage dates from 1800 and has been converted skilfully into a living room with tasteful furnishings, original beams, exposed stone walls and a large fireplace with a multi-fuel burner. There is a large dining area adjacent to the living room and a kitchen which leads into a south-facing conservatory, ideal for breakfast and relaxing. There is a downstairs toilet and utility area. Upstairs has three large double bedrooms (two with en-suite showers) and a bathroom. One of the bedrooms has a 6ft zip and link bed which can be used as a double bed or two single beds. The cottage has Sky TV and wi-fi internet access. Only a few steps from the main cottage is a games room and studio apartment. The large, heated games room has a pool table and table tennis table as well as a drying room for wet clothes and boots. Above the games room is the studio with sitting room and a double bedroom with en-suite. The sitting room has a sofa bed (for alternative sleeping only) and a TV. The cottage stands in an enclosed garden which has driveway parking for four vehicles, flower beds and two lawns. The larger lawn overlooks the nearby fields and hills, and is ideal for ball games. It adjoins a stone-flagged patio area with a built-in barbecue and outside table and chairs. Sheldon has a pub close to the cottage which is friendly and provides good food. The village is within easy reach of Bakewell and Ashford-on-the-Water, and is an excellent starting point for walking, exploring the countryside and visiting Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, The Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath, the caves around Castleton and many other attractions in the Peak District. Take a stroll through the local nature reserve, visit Chesterfield town centre known for its iconic crooked spire, where you can enjoy shopping and cafés. The Peak District is home to Chatsworth House, a magnificent stately home with stunning gardens and beautiful art collections; it is a must visit for history and architecture enthusiast. There are many different walks to be enjoyed around the entirety of the Peak District. Through the fields alongside unused railway tracks and hilly trails, there’s plenty of countryside to see along the way whichever route you take. You can easily fill your time in Derbyshire with activities to suit all your party with the knowing of having Red Robin Cottage to return to at the end of the day to relax and unwind in comfort.

Nestling in the stunning scenery of Goyt Valley this wing of the owner’s farmhouse retains many of its original features and beams. This spacious holiday accommodation, situated on a working farm, is in an ideal place to explore this lovely area, and is also in a conservation area, with walks from the doorstep. It is 1 mile from Whaley Bridge where you can stroll along the tow path to the Buxworth Basin or take a narrow boat trip. Whaley Bridge also has a train station to help explore if you want to leave the car behind. You could spend a day in Manchester and take in a show for the evening. 6½ miles away is the famous spa town of Buxton which also boasts an opera house and Pavilion Gardens. Book a day in the Dome Spa to relax or travel a little further and visit Chatsworth House and its amazing gardens and estate. Medieval Haddon Hall and the old market town of Bakewell is a must and you can travel through Winnets Pass to the charming village of Castleton with its famous caves where the Blue John stone is mined. Take a tour by boat through these caves and learn about the history of the people and how they mined them. Matlock Bath and Alton Towers make great days out for families. There are plenty of activities to enjoy locally including inhouse clay pigeon shooting lessons (at cost, by arrangement with owner) and there is also golf and horse riding located within 5 miles of the property. There are hundreds of miles of trails which start straight from the barn, it is an ideal opportunity to park-up, put the car keys away and just relax! Bailey’s Barn is a great base from which to explore the beauty and majesty of the region’s peaks, dales and rivers. With its own quirky traditions such as Bonsall Carnival, International Hen Racing Championships, ancient buildings and History Trails, Bonsall itself is a delightful find with two pubs and a lovely tearoom all within half a mile or so. Blackhill Gate Cottage is set in an unrivalled rural location offering superb panoramic countryside views across the stunning scenery of the Peak District National Park. Crossing the Derbyshire and Cheshire boundary on the outskirts of the pretty Peak District village of Kettleshulme, this holiday cottage is located next to a field which at times is home to nursery lambs, and offers fine walking direct from the door through the valley of Todd Brook, Bowstones, Taxal Edge and into the Goyt Valley. Kettleshulme itself is home to a 15th century country pub which offers a warm welcome and freshly cooked meals. The town of Whaley Bridge with its mix of shops, bars and restaurants plus train station with direct service to both Manchester and Buxton is a 5 minute drive. The National Trust Lyme Park with its glorious house and gardens can be reached on foot or by car and the magnificent historic houses of Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and the popular market town of Bakewell, 45 minute’s drive. A variety of Peak District villages are all easily reachable within half an hour’s drive including Edale, Tideswell and Castleton, and great days out for the family within an hour’s drive include the local Chestnut Centre Wildlife Park, Carsington Water, Matlock Bath with is cable car and the UK’s premier theme park Alton Towers. Water Bailiffs Lodge is located in the tranquil backwater of the Lumsdale Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with picturesque waterfalls and mill ponds dating from the Industrial Age. With superb view towards the hillsides of Matlock and Riber in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales, this property provides a relaxing get away from it all holiday experience. This west wing of a former mill owner’s home dates from the 18th century and stands in 16 acres of rolling, peaceful countryside with ample private parking for four cars, and is just a short distance from the market town of Matlock. The quiet, rural location is the perfect base from which to tour the surrounding countryside of Derbyshire and the Peak District National Park with many delightful walks right from the door of the property.
With a stylish blend of old and new throughout, the ground floor has a cosy living room with oak beams and wood burner, a well-equipped farmhouse kitchen, a reading area with sofa bed (for children under 12), a utility room and a bathroom with a corner bath. Upstairs are four rooms: a spacious master bedroom with kingsize bed; a second bedroom with double bed; and the third bedroom with a single bed and a 2ft 6in bed. An upstairs shower room completes this restored property.
Outside, visitors can enjoy the spacious open area with garden ponds and a stream. The grounds, which are shared with the neighbouring holiday cottage, are very large and provide the ideal place where you can fly kites, play ball games or just to relax on a quiet evening watching the sun set whilst enjoying a spot of alfresco dining.
Here at Water Bailiffs Lodge you have the best of both worlds: wonderful walks in the surrounding open Derbyshire countryside, and for days out, you are within close proximity to all the major tourist attractions the Derbyshire Dales have to offer. Certainly an idyllic rural retreat, yet the historic spa town of Matlock is only a mile away with its award-winning park where band concerts can be enjoyed on a Sunday summer afternoon, and where an annual Christmas Victorian market held is in December. Matlock Bath, named the little Switzerland of England, is just a couple of miles away and the famous illuminations are held here each year in September. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Baslow and its triple-arched river bridge is a large village, offering a range of village amenities including a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, even a Michelin star one too!
Nearby is historic Chatsworth House, with its opulent interiors and extensive gardens and parkland. The popular market town of Bakewell can be reached in just 10 minutes, and the towns of Matlock and Buxton are around half an hour away. The pretty Hope Valley villages and their range of attractions such as Hathersage, 10 minutes, with its open air swimming pool and the ever popular honeypot villages of Castleton and Edale, home to the start of the Pennine Way are all easily accessible. Sheffield and Chesterfield can both be reached in around half an hour and the UK’s premier theme park, Alton Towers, is around an hour away.
