Robin’s Rest is also an ideal location to explore the Heritage Coast and its picturesque coastal resorts, such as Robin Hood’s Bay, Runswick Bay, Staithes and many more nestled into the coastline. All of which take you back to when the coast was a haven for smugglers.
You can catch a steam train into the heart of the Yorkshire Moors, which is perfect for hikers and bikers. The Cleveland Way passes by the doorstep, taking you along the coast and then inland into the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.

Nearby there is much to see and do, including beautiful bays and beaches, such as Filey with over 5 miles of golden sand. There are local surf schools, where you can have lessons or hire surf and paddle boards. Visit Scarborough with its Sea life centre, open air theatre, Peasolm Park with oriental gardens and paddle boats, and Alpamare Water Park and Spa. For nature lovers you have Bempton Cliffs RSPB bird centre, with nesting puffins and gannets.
Flamborough Head is beautiful with dramatic white cliffs, seals and an iconic lighthouse. The stately homes of Sewerby Hall or Castle Howard are ideal for a day out, or you can explore the nearby North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Just 3 miles away, Pickering is a traditional market town with a local market held every Monday which is very popular with both the locals and tourists alike. Here you can catch a steam train for an amazing journey across the North York Moors National Park to the town of Whitby. Tiggywinkle Cottage sits in the heart of the picturesque village of Hawnby. Surrounded by the North York Moors National Park, this 200-year-old, detached, traditional Yorkshire cottage, which was fully refurbished and extended in 2020, is simply delightful. Tiggywinkle Cottage was named by a walker during the 1950s who took time to sit and draw the property. The villagers fell in love with the name and so it remains, along with the original pencil sketch which now hangs within the cottage.
On arrival visitors are welcomed into the open plan living area. This room oozes character with its low ceilings and stone floors, tall visitors will need to take care! There is a country kitchen and large comfortable sofas around the wood burner in the open plan living area. Ideal to snuggle up and enjoy an evening’s entertainment on the 32’’ Smart TV or simply sit and enjoy a good book and glass of wine after a long day walking or cycling in the National Park. You will find everything you need to cook your favourite holiday recipes whilst the dining area provides comfortable seating for four. A ground floor bedroom offers a zip and link option and an en-suite bathroom, both bedrooms have pocket spring mattresses and feather down duvets.
