This attractive stone built holiday cottage, in the grounds of the owner’s home, is on the edge of the pretty village of Wookey Hole, famous for its spectacular caves and legendary home of the infamous Witch of Wookey. There are many leisure activities available locally, including pot-holing, hang gliding and mountain biking. There is also a huge choice of walks from the doorstep, including the Monarch’s Way and the Mendip Way. There are supermarkets located in Wells along with a lovely market every Wednesday and Saturday. The town of Glastonbury is only a few miles away, with its 14th-century tower dominating the landscape of Glastonbury Tor. Pub and restaurant 250 yards.

Head in to the kitchen/breakfast room, which comes fantastically well equipped with everything you could need to rustle up the simplest of meals to a family feast as well as extras like a Nespresso coffee machine for your morning pick me up! Two spacious bedrooms (one with super kingsize zip and link bed – can be twins on request and one with a King size bed) share the luxury bathroom with its stunning double end slipper bath, walk in shower and heated towel rail, a separate dressing room can be found off the hall.
Outside you have two private parking spaces, a private garden with outdoor seating area and also access to the owners 6-acre estate and gardens, you could spend hours strolling round these admiring all the beautiful flowers no matter the season. Enjoy spectacular views of Wells Cathedral with Glastonbury Tor in the background from the main house.
The Gatehouse is the perfect base from which to explore the area, with Wells centre and its Cathedral just a short stroll away, meaning you are surrounded by shops and restaurants all easily reached without touching the car! Further afield you have the Vale of Avalon, Glastonbury with its quirky shops and ancient Tor, head to Wookey Hole Caves and try to spot the Wookey Witch or over to Cheddar with its famous gorge. The beautiful larger city of Bath is reached in around 45 minutes and is a wonderful spot to spend the day, stroll along the river, shop in one of the boutiques or head to the amazing thermal spa for a pamper treat! The Old Stable is a beautiful one-bedroom detached barn conversion which can accommodate up to four guests. Newly renovated in 2021 to a luxurious standard with plenty of character, beamed ceilings, bifold doors and stylish furnishings. The property is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with breathtaking views over the Mendips and the Chew Valley Lakes.
The property is set over two floors with a bright and spacious living area which has a Freeview Smart TV and two sofas, one of which is a double sofa bed that can accommodate an additional two guests. The kitchen and dining area is well equipped with an electric oven, induction hob, dishwasher, washer/ dryer, built-in microwave, fridge freezer, quartz worktops, a butler style sink and a table and chairs. The shower room leads off the living area and is fitted with a shower cubicle, heated towel rail, toilet and wash basin.
Upstairs, guests will enter into a galleried sleeping area which has a comfortable kingsize bed, built in drawers, bedside tables, hanging hooks and an armchair. The patio area at the back of The Old Stable is a real suntrap with two set of bistro tables and chairs, overlooking the views of the Mendips and the Chew Valley Lakes. Perfect for enjoying a morning coffee or glass of prosecco on a summer evening.
With brilliant walking routes all around, The Old Stable is a perfect back drop to days out. Within a 30-minute walk is the village of Chew Magna with three great pubs, a café/gift shop, fish bar, butcher, pharmacy and a shop. The property is close to the well-known Chew Valley Lake and Reservoir, and also to an abundance of great walks and popular tourist attractions including Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole Caves, Glastonbury Tor and Wells Cathedral. The seaside is also close by at Weston-super-Mare and Clevedon.
There is a Michelin star restaurant under a mile away, where people visit from all around to sample the delicious dishes and local ales that are on offer.
