Situated within the Dartmoor National Park, set back from a beautiful, leafy stretch of the B3212 and a mile from Doccombe, these three, lodge-style properties (refs W43911, 28924), accessed via a track, are adjacent to the owners’ home. The holiday lodges lie in a lovely setting that offer a comfortable base from which to explore the surrounding area. There are 10 acres of beautiful, ancient woodland, complete with a stream winding its way through the land, plus an abundance of wildlife, ponds and granite boulders. A rich variety of plants and woodland flowers offer an idyllic haven for the resident wildlife. This is a brilliant area for walking, relaxing and star gazing as there is no light pollution. Nearby, a golf club and horse riding over Dartmoor are available. Being in the midst of Dartmoor, there are many superb walks, reservoirs, heather-clad tors and Dartmoor ponies. There are many places of interest for the whole family. If you are a keen walker, the Teign Valley is well known for its delightful woodland footpaths. It is an area of outstanding beauty and in the springtime, the Dunsford woods are famous for beautiful natural daffodils and a little later, a carpet of bluebells. Tucked away in the heart of the mid-Devon countryside lies Hazelnut Lodge. With views over surrounding fields to the countryside beyond, this is the perfect place to get away from it all and enjoy the peace and quiet. Located in the grounds of the owner’s smallholding, there is a private drive leading down to the property. Skirted by the private woods, there is a large garden and sitting-out area. The spacious open plan living space is complimented by an inviting bedroom with its super kingsize bed. Patio doors lead from the living area onto the patio giving further access to a decking area for dining al fresco. Hazelnut Lodge is a comfortable base from which to explore all that Devon has to offer. Exeter is easily reached, and has a wide variety of shops, restaurants and, of course, its historic cathedral. Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks are accessible and provide walking for all abilities and stunning scenery. There are a number of National Trust properties in the area, most notably Castle Drogo and Arlington Court. Also within easy reach (20 miles) is Powderham Castle. This remarkable 14th century castle, set in a beautiful deer park on the banks of the River Exe, has been home to the same family since 1391. Visitors are encouraged to explore the picturesque gardens, discover the interior beauty of the castle and to take part in some of the events which are held throughout the year. The wonderful RHS gardens at Rosemoor and the Dartington Crystal Factory are worth a visit and both these attractions are based at Great Torrington. There is golf, fishing and horse riding available in the local area and cycle hire can be arranged on the Tarka Trail at various locations. Shop 3 miles, pub 1¼ miles and restaurant 5 miles.

Higher Rowes Farm is peacefully situated in the hamlet of Horndon just one mile from the village of Mary Tavy with it’s friendly local pub, post office and village shop. The property isn’t completely remote though, as just five miles away lies the Stannary town of Tavistock, with its farmers’ market, boutique shops, supermarkets, bistros, pubs, and cafés. The property’s West Devon location means that it is possible to reach both the north and south coasts of Cornwall and Devon in under an hour, and of particular interest, are the fishing village of Looe, King Arthur’s Tintagel, and the National Trust village of Boscastle. There are also plenty of local beauty spots nearby, including the Lydford Gorge, Burrator Reservoir, Dartmoor Zoo, Castle Drogo and the historic Buckland Abbey. Enjoy the 11 miles of traffic-free route, The Granite Way that stretches from Okehampton to Lydford winding through some of the most stunning Dartmoor countryside and moorland.
Home to 368 square miles of natural delights, Dartmoor National Park boasts a plethora of walking and cycling routes leading you through steep wooded river valleys to enticing archaeological sites. There’s so much to explore here, with ample opportunities for outdoor activity including canoeing, climbing, geocaching and more. Higher Rowes Farm is a holiday home for all seasons and will provide a wonderful and relaxing base to explore and recharge the batteries; there is also a very good riding stables on the moor nearby called Cholwell riding stables. Set in a rural location with stunning views of the surrounding countryside.This large, imposing, detached country house is the ideal place for a large family or group to come and stay whilst enjoying all that North Devon has to offer. The house has large living areas, a very well equipped kitchen with a quintessential Aga. There is a spacious dining room which is ideal for celebrating a special occasion, and well-furnished bedrooms, the majority of which have en-suite facilities, complete this charming house. Outside, there is the use of a private hot tub as well as a private swimming pool. There is a large well tended garden with plenty of space and sitting out areas for all to enjoy and a play area for small children. Located just outside the village of Beaford, there is also a local pub within walking distance.
North Devon has plenty to see and do, and is home to some of the best beaches in the country including Woolacombe and Saunton. The nearest beach is at Instow and is ideal for children or just a great place to walk off life’s stresses, and then enjoy a meal or drink at one of the pubs and restaurants along the front. The town of Great Torrington is only a short drive away and has most amenities you may require. The larger regional town of Barnstaple has a busy high street, the Pannier Market and famous Butchers Row. There are numerous places of interest close by including the RHS gardens at Rosemoor, Dartington Crystal and the historic fishing village at Clovelly. For the younger ones a visit to the Big Sheep or Milky Way Adventure Parks is a good option. There is walking on Dartmoor or hire a bike and cycle the Tarka Trail, and there is also golf and fishing available locally.
