Ironstone Cottage is in a peaceful village served by a little local shop, with the rolling heather clad moors just at the end of the road. These stone terraced cottages were built for the miners back in 1860. You can visit the nearby mining museum to find out more about the history, as this area was at the heart of the steel industry back in the 1800s. The name Ironstone Cottage was chosen to honour the history of the area, the owner’s father was employed to care for the pit ponies from the age of 11. Now the biggest draw to the area is tourism as guests explore the national park and the nearby beaches. There are a host of wonderful walks and cycle trails to explore, this is the perfect base for those who enjoy nature.
Just a short drive away you have Saltburn, Staithes and Runswick Bay leading down to the incredibly popular coastal town of Whitby, all ideal for a day of discovery. On the moors there are some stunning beauty spots such as Roseberry Topping as well as quaint rural villages with some great pubs, perfect as a reward after a day of walking.

At the back of the property you have an enclosed garden with a lawn and sitting out area, which is great for unwinding on a sunny evening, enjoying a bottle of wine. Inside the cottage is carefully furnished to create a comfortable and welcoming holiday home. The well equipped kitchen/dining area, is where you can reminisce over the day’s events over a delicious home cooked meal. The living room is separate and cosy, with sofas nestled around the TV. Upstairs you have a choice of three bedrooms, a double, a twin and a master king bedroom with an en-suite shower room. The North Yorkshire Moors is a fabulous and varied destination to explore, you can take a ride on the steam train which runs from the coast to visit many pretty rural villages, including Goathland which was the set for the popular TV show Heartbeat, as well as the Hogsmeade station in Harry Potter. 22 Sea is a beautifully presented end of terrace house nestled in a quiet corner of ‘The Bay’, a purpose built holiday village overlooking Filey bay on the picturesque North Yorkshire coastline. With open plan living, and stunning full height windows providing access to a first floor balcony.

The dining table provides plenty of seating for six and is ideally placed to enjoy a family breakfast or delicious home cooked evening meal.
Two sets of bi-fold doors provide access to a covered patio area and flood the room with natural light. An understairs cupboard provides space for storage and a WC completes the ground floor accommodation.
Take the stairs to the first floor and you will find two stunning and spacious bedrooms, a kingsize double and a double room with traditional bunk beds. Both bedrooms offer the ’wow’ factor with vaulted ceilings and full height cathedral windows which open up to provide access to a full length, south facing balcony with lovely views across the holiday park. This cosy detached cottage making a romantic retreat, is Grade II listed and dates back to 1760. It has been tastefully renovated to a very good standard and benefits from an underfloor heated limestone tiled floor throughout the ground floor. Outside there is a large, enclosed, riverside garden, on the opposite side of a road that leads directly into the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. It has a shared patio with a sitting-out area, a further riverside secluded seating area, garden furniture, BBQ and summerhouse. Although shared with the owners it is available to guests and their pets to enjoy at all times. Within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, East Ayton is a village just a few minutes’ drive from the seafront at Scarborough. The village has all the amenities you could wish for with a post office, shop, garage and local pub as well as an excellent fish restaurant. The cottage is just off the main street on the lane leading further into the National Park and towards Hackness. This property is an ideal place for the walkers or cyclists amongst you, with great trails right on your doorstep. From the large riverside orchard garden there are open views across the valley to the castle that dates back to 1390. Cycling is also very popular in the area as this forms part of the Tour de Yorkshire route. The Dalby Forest is close by with cycle trails for all abilities and home to the World Cup Trail, a challenging 4 mile route, or for beginners, there are plenty more leisurely routes. The cottage is an ideal base to visit all that Yorkshire has to offer from the North Yorkshire Moors to the Wolds and the beautiful east coast, and coarse fishing is available direct onto the River Derwent at the bottom of the garden with brown trout and grayling. The wonderful gothic town of Whitby has something for everyone, from Whitby Abbey to the old town and its cobbled back streets complete with bazaars. No visit to Whitby is complete without challenging the 199 steps to the top of the town and Abbey; it’s definitely worth the effort for the view alone. Whitby plays host to regular events such as the Steampunk Weekend, the Whitby Regatta and the now world famous Goth Weekender.

This is also the perfect place to make as your base for exploring the North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Heritage Coast. Travel by steam train into the heart of ‘Heartbeat’ country or take a fishing trip out to sea on one of the many boat trips that leave the harbour with the hope of seeing whales, seals or dolphins. The Cleveland Way snakes along the coast and is a must for those who enjoy the great outdoors. Robin Hood’s Bay and Runswick Bay are just some of the highlights along the coast, whilst the medieval walled city of York is just an hours’ drive or train ride away. Staithes is popular with tourists and has a number of traditional pubs, a coffee shop and even its own independent art gallery. It has a fascinating history of pirates and smugglers, as well as links to Captain Cook who worked here as a child.
