There is also a train station, the line through Taynuilt runs from Glasgow to Oban so you can have a day in the city or head to the islands. Taynuilt’s golf course is just a few minutes’ walk from the cottage and offers 9 holes.
The bustling Victorian town of Oban known as the ‘Gateway to the Highlands’ is just 20 minutes away by carand offers shops, bars, seafood restaurants, a cinema and leisure centre. Whisky lovers can visit the Oban Distillery to learn how it’s all made. Regular boat trips leave the busy harbour bound for the Inner Hebridean Islands, including Mull, Iona and the Treshnish Isles with their comical puffins.

Furnished to a high standard, and close to the owners’ home, Fordson offers single-storey accommodation and Ferguson is a detached two-storey cottage. The Mill House stands as a detached converted barn, with Waren View and The Granary Cottage forming an adjoining pair. Warenford Village serves as an excellent base from which to discover Northumberland and the Scottish border country. Just 4 miles distant lies Budle Bay, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as an SSSI, with the ancient walled town of Berwick-upon-Tweed (15 miles) and the Duchess of Northumberland’s ornamental gardens a short drive away. Created to rival the best in Europe, the gardens are contemporary in design and include waterfalls and cascading plumes set within landscaped grounds with themed planted areas. Also sure to delight both young and old alike is a visit to neighbouring Alnwick Castle, which served as the location for the Harry Potter films. Home of the Percy family, it stands as the second largest inhabited castle in England after Windsor Castle, with some of its rooms open to the public and displaying a wealth of decorative and fine art.

Within easy reach, too, is Holy Island – renowned for its medieval religious heritage, priory and picturesque castle – and also known by its Anglo-Saxon name of Lindisfarne. Accessed by a paved causeway at low tide, the island is popular with bird-watchers and nature lovers, with the north-western portion of the island being maintained as a nature reserve, where terns, plovers and seals can be observed. Whilst on the island, a trip to The Museum of Island Life will reveal former living and working conditions there, and St Aidan’s Winery tempts visitors with its sweet concoction of local Lindisfarne Mead.

Just a 5-minute drive from the bustling, picturesque coastal town of Wells-next-the-Sea, and yet tucked away in a rural enclave offering views across open countryside. Pink Cottage is semi-detached and offers everything you need for a relaxing coastal break, and has a large enclosed garden to the rear with a barbecue, and a sitting-out area that’s perfect for summer guests. The living room has a wood burner that will provide cosy evenings for winter visitors, making Pink Cottage a perfect year round retreat. One of a small group of cottages once belonging to the Holkham Estate, the cottages must remain pink to maintain their heritage and they provide a pretty burst of colour to this picturesque area.
Wells-next-the-Sea is a great gateway to the beautiful North Norfolk coast, with its much photographed quay and quaint narrow gauge railway that takes you to the wide sandy beach. Travel east or west from here and you will find a coastline line littered with pretty villages, with sandy and shingle beaches, marshes and quays, all of which make great terrain for sunbathing, swimming, walking, cycling, watersports and bird watching.
With nearby access to the Peddars Way and north Norfolk coastal path amongst many other walking trails, the area is great for walkers and for guests bringing their dogs. For those interested in the local wildlife, the well known Norfolk Wildlife Trust Cley Marshes nature reserve, RSPB Titchwell Marshes reserve and Pensthorpe Natural Park are all under 12 miles from the cottage and boat trips to view the colonies of seals are available from nearby Blakeney and Morston. The Sealife Sanctuary at Hunstanton, and the Dinosaur Adventure Park at Lenwade are also easily accessible. You will also find many National Trust properties and stately homes such as the Holkham Estate, Sandringham and Blickling Hall. This perfect bolt hole is under 2 miles away from the picturesque village of Walsingham, with shops including an award winning farm shop and deli, which specialises in Norfolk produce, along with pubs, a café, restaurant, shrine, abbey and priory ruins. A short drive could also take you to either the lovely Georgian village of Burnham Market or to the market town of Holt, both boasting an array of specialist independent shops, galleries, antique shops, pubs and restaurants.
