Blackhill Gate Cottage is set in an unrivalled rural location offering superb panoramic countryside views across the stunning scenery of the Peak District National Park. Crossing the Derbyshire and Cheshire boundary on the outskirts of the pretty Peak District village of Kettleshulme, this holiday cottage is located next to a field which at times is home to nursery lambs, and offers fine walking direct from the door through the valley of Todd Brook, Bowstones, Taxal Edge and into the Goyt Valley. Kettleshulme itself is home to a 15th century country pub which offers a warm welcome and freshly cooked meals. The town of Whaley Bridge with its mix of shops, bars and restaurants plus train station with direct service to both Manchester and Buxton is a 5 minute drive. The National Trust Lyme Park with its glorious house and gardens can be reached on foot or by car and the magnificent historic houses of Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and the popular market town of Bakewell, 45 minute’s drive. A variety of Peak District villages are all easily reachable within half an hour’s drive including Edale, Tideswell and Castleton, and great days out for the family within an hour’s drive include the local Chestnut Centre Wildlife Park, Carsington Water, Matlock Bath with is cable car and the UK’s premier theme park Alton Towers. This quaint holiday home, as its name suggests, was the former blacksmiths shop which resides beside the village green. The green is a lovely place to sit, relax, take a breath and admire the beautiful surroundings of the unspoilt village of Shorwell (pronounced ’shorrel’ by many resident islanders), which was named after the local spring - The Shor Well. This was one of Queen Victoria’s favourite places to visit when she was on the island holidaying at her residence Osborne House. The village is centred around its historic church, St Peters, which dates back to the 12th century.

The surrounding parish is also home to a trio of impressive manor houses - Northcourt, Westcourt and Wolverton Manor. Today, the village stands in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is at the centre of a network of footpaths, bridleways and cycle routes to explore and enjoy. The routes are scattered with lovely thatched cottages, and the village also has an 18th-century country pub and a small local shop and post office.

It’s in a great location to see many different areas and attractions as it lies halfway between Stratford-upon-Avon and Banbury.
The beautiful towns and villages of the north Cotswolds can be reached in approximately 10 minutes’ drive where you can explore Chipping Norton, Moreton-in-Marsh, Stow-on-the-Wold or Woodstock, home to Blenheim Palace. The National Trust’s Upton House and Gardens, Charlecote Park, Farnborough and Hidcote are all within easy reach. Compton Verney is just over 5 miles away, where you can discover the art gallery with its many collections and exhibitions, and enjoy the park with its labyrinth, bird hide, pond dipping and playground.
